I tried to watch your video of Hungarian Rhapsody No. 6, but it cut out during the octaves part - the media player couldnt continue to play the file and it crashed.  I was really getting into it too.. although, the camera angle and sound quality arent very good.  Was it really echoing that badly?

TheJemboy: he's talking about "beats per minute"--he wants to know how fast you play those nice legato scales on the guitar, in terms of metronome markings.

Anyway, I must say I liked your stuff. You are quite good on both the instruments, but it seems like (to me) that maybe you've been playing guitar a little longer. It's not that your piano playing lacks anything especially, but those guitar videos were pretty awesome, particularly for a non-guitarist like myself.

Also, that Godowsky etude really is a b*tch, and even though you did a good overall job on it, it would definitely be worth it to go back in there and work more heavily on individual trouble sections to avoid any breaks in continuity.

You did a great job on the Hungarian Rhapsody, though, and my favourite piano video was of that Volodos/Glinka piece.

Hi Alexandre,
I noticed that you have a tan line that starts at your wrist; your hands are pale by comparison.  That can only mean a couple of things:

1) you wear short sleeve shirts while wearing gloves
2) you keep your hands in your pockets while wearing short sleeve shirts
3) you are a cyclist!

Do you ride a Look? ;)

LOL :D :D

But i don't have A Tan line that starts,i'm not a cyclist but i enjoy swimming pool...
But i think that the Hungary N°2 is more difficult for me that the N°6,because the 6 it's just octaves part that be difficult but i remenber before play the  6 in the church i practice 2Hours of Octave/day in fast tempo for have The resistance and i play hungary after...
The 2 is hard to play, the end is too fast and we've got more resistance but cziffra can play the 2 why not me... ? LOL....
I think that my first part of record's hungary 2 is not bad but i'm not satisfied of the part N2...
I record another version pehaps in the future...
But i've next record hungary N°13,Chopin's Scherzo N°4 & Boléro and and and ....
Volodos turkish march on vidéo LOL for the fun ...

What I've been doing (because I'm running out of space on my hard drive) is just copying the shortcut and then pasting it in WMP by going to file/copy URL (or something like that...)--that always works, and you don't really have to download it.

Anyway, Jemboy, keep up the great work! I look forward to the other recordings.

Hi,

I don't Know,For me octave is not dificult to play fast, but for example it's for me more difficult to play mozart sonata that Liszt "Mazeppa"...
But Liszt play 2hours of Octave/Day i thinks that if you play scale, arpégio,or Hanon Exercize (why not)all with Octave you've a big octave's technique but the piano's technique is not the most difficult for me  i thinks that musicality is most difficult...

You play with a lot of tension in your wrists and arms!  Are you currently studying with a teacher?  He/she has a responsbility to point this out to you.

Also, I'm not sure if you notice, but your videos, at least the Godowsky as it was the only one I watched, was not spliced very discreetly at all.

Your playing is excellent, though!

Thank you for posting your site.
Don't take this the wrong way because I mean this as honest and constructive criticism.
You have pretty good facility, but  the performances are overall uninteresting, and not very musical. You seem to be struggling a lot technically, and have a lot of tension.  You say this is because of the piano.
To put your best foot forward, you might consider posting some pieces that are more within your technical abilities. That way you would be able to play more musically, and the performances would be more polished. After all, you want to show yourself in the best light possible, don't you?

he has the speed and dexterity to play the notes(albeit barely)

but to play these works really well, you need more technique then that - to be in complete control and to sound articulated

however, its probably only a matter of time if he keeps practicing, he may get a volodos-level technique

This is bullcrap. If he's got something for granted, its dexterity. Using it optimally is another thing, but even so it seems like technicality isn't one of his biggest concerns. Performing to a microphone or a camera can differ a lot from playing directly to yourself or an audience, which I believe is one of main reasons to why his playing sounds "dry" and emotionally distant most of the time, but to me it looks like it'd be no big of a deal to complement these pieces. Obviously he realizes the pieces are not ready, or he wouldn't be so eager to receive feedback - but they're well on their way.
