Haydn - Sonata in E-flat major, Hob.XVI/49

sometimes but rarely called the "Genzinger" due to the dedicatee, some countess or another, who haydn apparently depicted in musical portait in the lovely second movement. this was from a classical program of mine following the CPE Bach sonata which i posted earlier.

i've loved this sonata ever since i first heard it a long time ago on horowitz's "last recording" album. the first movement is full of charm but also reflective music - the quiet repeated notes that then become the climax (and are the same rhythm as beethoven's 5th) and the subtlety of the harmony attracts me a lot.

the second movement is a sort of casual set of variations in ornamentation of a simple theme. a surprising turn to the minor key suggests that countess genzinger had a fiery side as well.. the last movement rondo is hard to play in the right tempo, as the temptation is to just run ahead. it's your call to say how well i did in that respect. :)

andhow... you have amazingly similar tastes to me (assuming you are posting music of composers that you enjoy).  Brilliant as always.
