Knecht - Lamento
on: November 18, 2012, 12:28:13 AM
Played this piece on what we call Remembrance Day in Canada.  It is by German composer Justin Heinrich Knecht.

Yes, it can be played on piano.  I did some modifications for this, added in a pedal part, etc.

Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Hi quantum,

This is a wonderful performance.  This piece has a sense of occasion, a stoic solemnity, and sad remembrance.  Very well communicated to the listener in my opinion.  Thanks for sharing it with us.

It would be wonderful if you could post a piano performance of this -I dislike the organ too much to listen beyond a few bars -my loss no doubt -

David,  thanks for listening.  Those attributes of the piece you mention are what attracted me to program it on Remembrance Day.

starstruck5, thanks for listening (well at least the first few seconds).  What is it about the organ that you dislike?  It appears though you do have some interest in the music to ask for an alternate recording.

I've been having a major organ kick lately. Thanks for posting this, I enjoyed it. I like when you introduced more reed pipes in one of the repetitions. What an awesome instrument. I'm jelly.

Women and the Chopin Competition: Breaking Barriers in Classical Music

The piano, a sleek monument of polished wood and ivory keys, holds a curious, often paradoxical, position in music history, especially for women. While offering a crucial outlet for female expression in societies where opportunities were often limited, it also became a stage for complex gender dynamics, sometimes subtle, sometimes stark. From drawing-room whispers in the 19th century to the thunderous applause of today’s concert halls, the story of women and the piano is a narrative woven with threads of remarkable progress and stubbornly persistent challenges.
