Jazzy Spiritual music recommendations please
on: November 28, 2012, 10:27:05 PM
Have a new student who wants tunes to play in church, she can play hymns, and melody, arpeggio in LH sort of dry stuff, but she wants more jazzy, 'spicy', spiritual, church appropriate music. Classical seems fine, but she is a lower intermediate learner getting back into music as an adult. Any recommendations?
Thanks.

Bill Wolaver, Phillip Keveren, Bradley Sowash, Jack Schrader, John Carter, Matt Hyzer, Craig Curry.  You'll have to sift through to find what's easier/more accessible since some of the arrangements are difficult.  Off the top of my head, you might want to try "Amazing Grace" from Bill Wolaver's Just a Closer Walk folio.
Sibelius - Romance Op. 24, No. 9
Liszt - Consolation No. 3 in D-flat
Chopin - Prelude Op. 28, No.15
Debussy - Claire de Lune
(What can I say?  I love D-flat!)
