Clavinova CPV 501 or Arius YDP 181
on: December 03, 2012, 04:28:59 PM
Guys,
Classic issue ...
I have six years old daughter who just joining piano lessen 3 months ago. We would like to buy a piano. At the beginning we were thinking for silent upright piano. But then we have a tought that most probably we will use the silent function up to 80% because we are living in the apartment. My wife is also playing piano as well.
In this case, better to buy digital piano rather than silent upright piano...in term of money and usage.
We are looking around and right now we have two choices:
- Yamaha Clavinova CPV 501 ... cost about $ 2000.-
- Yamaha Arius YDP 181 ... cost about $ 1200.-
The Clavinova is still in the budget ... somehow on the upper end.
Is it worth to spend another $ 800 to have Clavinova CPV 501 or YDP 181 is more than enough ?
Looking forward for your advise, opinions and comments .... Thanks.

These two models are competely different from one another. The 501 has synth capabilities that you may or may not need ( I'm guessing probably not). It has 296 different instrument sounds etc. The 181 is more of an out of the box piano, more piano only.

Depressing the pedal on an out of tune acoustic piano and playing does not result in tonal color control or add interest, it's called obnoxious.
