For a non-adjustable bench, you can get cuts of 1x4 wood, or similar and stack them under the legs to make the bench taller.  You could also use parts of a phonebook.

Many adjustable benches will have a knob at one or both sides of the bench, you turn the knob one way to raise and the opposite to lower.  If it is difficult to tell which turn direction is which, sit on the bench and turn the knob.  One direction will have more resistance than the other, the direction with the greater resistance raises the bench.

I've also come across adjustable benches that have been "fixed" into a certain height.  Some of these adjustable benches have a tendency to wobble, and locking them to a certain height may be a solution to the wobble.  Look underneath if something has been wedged in the mechanism.

It depends on the bench. Some of them have knobs on the side you turn, some have more exotic mechanisms, and some don't adjust at all.  If the latter, I find a suitable pillow works fine.

I have a drum stool like this, that is adjustable and not by spinning it seems. You mislead me. I tried for hours.

I didn't say anything about drum stools. Piano stools spin; drum stools hold no interest for me.

I tried for hours.

Hmmm. You need a hobby.

Glenn Gould had a special chair. I use a wooden chair as well. How tall are you?

Like 6 feet.

I have trouble finding properly sized piano benches. I'm 6 feet 7 inches tall and I have really long legs for my body size (and really long arms and long, flexible fingers). Most benches are WAY too low. I finally found one which adjusts to my height properly (it needs to be a bit higher than most adjustable benches will go, and I need to elevate my piano so the tops of my legs aren't crushed.)

Just don't cut off your fingers.

With one of those babies, you're way more likely to cut off your feet. Which is another way of solving the problem.

You can try to find a low chair that works for you.  That is what I did with my previous piano.  The matching bench was too high, so I used a chair.

Do you have friends that are good in woodworking?  Have them make a bench for you.

Unfortunately, I prefer using the sheet music of CERTAIN composers and/or CERTAIN editions in lieu of using blocks of wood. :)
Bach - Partita No.2
Scriabin - Etude 8/12
Debussy - L'isle Joyeuse
Liszt - Un Sospiro

Hmmm....  on second thoughts, using a phonebook was probably a bit harsh.  I like your recycling initiatives  :D

Piano Street Magazine:
Toward the Flame: Boris Petrushansky’s Journey Through Scriabin’s Universe

Alexander Scriabin died in April 1915, at forty-three, of a fever that took him within a week — leaving his great mystical project unfinished. He left behind a piano language no one had spoken before, one that a century later still questions every interpreter who approaches it. Boris Petrushansky has spent a lifetime preparing his answer. In a new album and an extended conversation with Piano Street, he traces Scriabin’s path from the early Preludes to the final, shattering Op. 74. Read more
