Am I really where I should be?
on: December 05, 2012, 04:23:17 AM
Hi. I'm 14 years old and wondering if I'm where I should be on the piano.
I've been playing since about the age of 7 and have progressed very slowly as compared to others.
I just recently played Debussy "Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum" for a solo competition.
I was just wondering where I should be and how I should be progressing.
Thank you.

That sounds about right. What else do you play? How did you go in the competition?

Could you name some other pieces that you can play? In this way, I can tell you what I believe.
I can't tell you what your progress should be like. But "Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum" is not an easy piece.
You have to know that each person progresses at different rates. What matters is to enjoy your playing. Do your best and progress will come!
