i lost my freakin wallet today
on: October 18, 2004, 11:10:03 AM
ok so this thread is just so i can have a cry at the fact that i left my wallet on a table in a food court at uni today and someone attempted to take $1000 out of my multi-access card but didn't cos 1) they don't know my pin and 2) it only has $7 in it. so i had to cancel my bankcard, plus my mum's cos i had hers as well which actually had a lot of money in it but i don't think they saw it cos it was hiding, get a new licence, mbf card, student id card, library card, art gallery membership card, train pass, and live without the $40 in it and my beautiful treble and bass clef earrings i'd bought in london they were SO cOOl i'm really sad i'd left them in there.

so the moral of my story is make sure you have your wallet with you at all times and always check it's in your bag when you leave somewhere!

anyone else had any tragic stories of lost/stolen wallets?

My father had quite a story about losing his wallet.
He was in downtown Chicago and had forgotten that his wallet was in his coat pocket when he hung it over his arm.  So back at his apartment he receives a call from a man who says he has his wallet and would like to meet him somewhere.  So my dad, not being an experienced city-goer agrees and gets the address.  The next day he asks a policeman if he knew the location of the address, and the policeman responds with alacrity, you can't be serious!  He's just going to rob your apartment when you're out meeting this guy!  You'd better just give it up - you're not getting it back.  So, forlorn, he goes back to the apartment and gets another phone call from the man.  He says, really, I would like to meet you somewhere to give your wallet back.  This time my dad gets a police escort to take him to the address, and there's the honest man that hands my dad his wallet.

There are a few good people out there.

Left mine at a Tim Horton counter a couple of years ago and the idiot tried to cash a blank check I left in there for the amount of 2500$.

Luckily, I had already been to the bank to cancel everything and the kid got caught. Don't know what happened to him. Probably nothing.

The hassle is really the worst part. canceling credit cards, bank cards, closing accounts and opening new ones, getting new drivers license and everything else you can possibly imagine.

I've heard it's a good idea to make a xerox copy of everything in your wallet just in case you lose it.  That way you've got all your credit card numbers, etc. (provided you don't lose the copies)

Oh my!  What's that?
