Liszt Valse melancolique S.214
on: December 05, 2012, 11:56:56 PM
I've been playing this piece for several years now. I am bringing it back for a series of concerts in March. This is the second version of the piece, by the way.
I think it is a marvelous work, and should be played more often.

This waltz of Liszt is a lovely piece to say the least. You played it beautifully and served the composer well. Was this piece originally published separately or as part of a collection? It's hard to understand why it's neglected; however, your fine performance of this lesser known work certainly gives it a well-deserved boost. Thanks for sharing your recording with us.

this was published as a set - 3 Caprices-Valses, S.214. For this publication he reworked each piece again. I think that this version of the Valse Melancolique is superior to the earlier version.
