Trouble reading music
on: December 06, 2012, 04:17:42 PM
Sometimes i find it very hard to pinpoint exactly when im supposed to play left hand note because it isn't exactly under another note from the right hand
for example, let assume we have four fast notes in the right hand and two notes in the left, sometimes it isnt clear if i should play it first note in left hand with first note in right hand, and third note in right hand with second note in left hand simply because they do not fall excatly under each other.
how would i know?
sorry ive always been terrible at reading.

To be honest, you need to learn the basics of rhythm and base your understanding not on alignment but on note lengths. If there are no rests, both notes are on the first beat. Alignment of notes can only be a reminder- not a basis upon which you can opt out of the need to understand rhythmic notation.

if your sheet music is written correctly--everything should line up. If it is newfangled computer notation--it can be pretty bad--so you have to COUNT the LH to see where it should fall..otherwise--just use your ear--if you suck at reading and you play...I am guessing you have a good ear...
but if you wish to be a better reader -- refer to the first comment
