Pieces that are fun to play...
on: December 06, 2012, 07:22:00 PM
there are pieces that are beautiful and some that are musically impresive and fast but there are some peices that are fun and can play them over and over and not get sic of them
im just curious to know what are the pieces u find fun to play technically and musically,  pieces that make your fingers melt in the keys??

at my level i find beethoven op 49 n2 first movement really fun with some Clementi sonatinas, also find Debussy arabesque really fun and never seem to get sick of playing it i just love the way the fingers fit in the keys...   and must ad Chopin Fantaisie impromptu C-sharp minor ;)

There's nothing like the feeling of pissing off my family with the alternating chords of Rachmaninoff's Prelude, Op. 3, No. 2.

The dense chords played at fff(f?) are also great for anger release. :P

Scarlatti Sonata K. 427 is really fun to play, as is Une Barque Sur L'Ocean by Ravel. Something about that Ravel piece fits your hands so well...

Pretty much everything by Liszt and Rachmaninoff.

With the exception of Op. 3 No. 2 and Op. 23 No. 2

One assumes you also exclude Liszt's Bach transcriptions.

And more generally, I think you have confused "are fun to play" with "I like".

If that was the case I would have included Scriabin.

Then, since it's not, you have a very odd sense of fun.  :o

Late Liszt. The slow movement of the Hammerklavier.

Unless you find slashing your wrists "fun".

Fascinating, sure. Profound, undoubtedly. But fun? Nah!

That must be the technique I'm missing..  I guess now my performances will come alive while I slowly drop dead.

It'll certainly make your Rach 3 stand out from the crowd.

If you believe "shine", Mr Helfgott passed out on the stage and suffered a mental breakdown after his..   I may just be seen to being trying to one-up him.

I find Hollywood movies an exceptionally reliable source of truth.

Which reminds me... the hoverboard I ordered a while back seems to have gone astray in the post. Must get on the old shoe phone to them.

Pretty sure shine isn't strictly a "hollywood" movie. - however i condede...  but only because his sister has criticised the film over having many inaccuracies..

I have fun playing any fugue by Bach, once I´ve learned it of course, and the 3rd mov. Precipitato from Prokofiev´s 7th sonata  ;D

any satie, but especially the random ones which describe lanterns swinging, and shellfish mourning etc. Love those, they are so fun, and confuse people!

Also fun (when its been practiced!) is the minute waltz, love that as grew up with it on radio 4 and so pleasing when it goes well.

I also find clementi fun, it is very pleasing.

And some of those mikrosmos, like 'buzzing', I like that random stuff.

For me it's definitely a toss-up between Debussy's Reflets Dans L'eau and Rachmaninoff's Prelude op. 23 no. 7!  ;D

Once faster Bach is good 'under the finger's it's really fun to play!  I have the worst time retaining Bach's stuff, but the Allemande from the Bb Partita is a hell of a lot of fun to play, and it's really short too!  His stuff is super pianistic, so once it's learned, you just have 'fun' when you sit and play it.

Debussy.  That is all.

An alluring Allemande, a courtly Courante, a serene Sarabande, a gorgeous Gavotte or mannerly Minuet or boisterous Bourree or pretty Passepeid, all finished of with a jolly Gigue.

Heaven!  :D

I'd say some easy Liszt is really fun. Walderauschen and things like that.
