Casio PX-350
on: December 10, 2012, 01:38:25 AM
Is there anyone there with this keyboard?
Initially I thought I was going to get something thats cheap, in the 250-500 dollar range...
...But then I tried a keyboard with weighted keys and this thing absolutely destroys the cheap keyboards. I didn't think feel of a keyboard was that important, until I actually played around with these things.
...For 300 dollars more, there seems to be...
...A QUANTUM LEAP in performance.
I compared the Yamaha e433 (250 dollars) to my former Yamaha PSR e233 (80 Bucks)and eh, it felt like the same thing, except with a subtle difference in dynamics. Sound was ,eh, more or less the same, the thing still felt like the toy I got the first time.
Then I saw a lower end casio for 500 bucks, as well as some yamaha keyboards that came with a stand. At this price range the sound was getting better, and so was the feel of the keyboard. The keyboard felt... ...Like it was easier to be more precise in making a certain sound.
...For 2
Then there was this Casio Privia px-350. The thing completely blew the lower-price competition out of the water. The sound felt rich and deep instead of shallow and noticeably digital. The textured keys were aesthetically pleasing.
And it was at that point I realized that a weighted keyboard really was what I needed.
Now, 300 dollars aren't exactly easy to save, but at this point it seems to be worth it.

When a place like Guitar Center, in store or online runs their 2 day sales, you often can get into a $999 piano for $799. Well I shouldn't say often but it happens. So then you could be into a Yamaha P155 with GH action for the cost of that Privia, FWIW. Course if you really like the PX 350 then that may be on sale as well. And that's really what it's about, you should buy the piano that feels right to you. Don't worry too much about what other people think, Casio has a decent name in the low end market.
I don't recall if the PX 350 was in the mix of casio pianos I played on a couple of months ago or not. I played several though and did not care for the feel of the keys on any that I played . This one is rated differently so I may not have played it. For me the first piano that felt decent was the Yamaha CP33 and though it has GH action like the P155, it for what ever reason felt better than the P155 to me. Of course the CP 33 requires external sound system which is fine with me. Just saying, look around watch for sales !

Depressing the pedal on an out of tune acoustic piano and playing does not result in tonal color control or add interest, it's called obnoxious.
