silly question - do you bling up your piano for xmas?
on: December 11, 2012, 06:16:46 PM
Obviously no candles etc, but I do like to blu-tac some tinsel round my beloved piano :) Its very ugly anyway so might as well have some tat stuck on it, adds something for singing carols round it (til the blu tac falls off)

Do you decorate your piano??

ah very pretty and subtle for an elegant piece of playing :) thinking about preparing pianos for xmas made me wonder why no one has done a christmas version of this sort of thing...bells on the strings maybe?  Wish I had a grand!

Do you decorate your piano??

I try not to embarrass my piano, in the hope that it returns the favour.

I don't celebrate Christmas, but if I did, I wouldn't dare put anything on my Steinway Model D  :) Nor do I decorate my two Bosendorfers.

Does giving the case an extra coat of wax count?  And I change the decoration in the vase on the right hand side of the music rack...

I don't put any decorations or purely aesthetic items on my instruments any time of the year.  People may sometimes try to move a plant or vase on the piano to pose for a picture during gatherings, I make sure to put an end to such activity immediately.

Gives me an idea to duct tape a flower vase to a cello. Would make a good display piece.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

lol, I wonder if one's willingness to put stuff on one's piano correlates to the naffness of the piano!

Mine is a horrid ugly young chang which would embarass me if my playing wasn't so naff anyway, so it deserves some fugly tinsel hung on it.  Though visitors who put cups of tea etc on it get a bollocking.

I do not touch my Steinway D...nor my other piano (smaller Steinway grand) and neither does anyone else...or else.

24 hours ago I would have said no, but a singer friend is coming in a day or two to record a Xmas video and wants to pretty up the Bechstein too. Goodness knows what she has in mind but I like her taste, usually. If I remember I'll post the YouTube link when it's up.

As a matter of fact, yes. It's a white steinway and sons and I will apply little raindeers and a santa claus bach on it.  ;D
Current repertoire:
Bach Toccata in E minor
Beethoven Sonata op.110
Rachmaninov Corelli Variations
Liszt Paganini Etudes No.2 and 6.
Strauss Burlesque in d minor, Brahms piano concerto No.2.

There's a mini-lighted Christmas tree at the end of mine, two small fake poinsettia bouquets in the middle, and an un-lighted candle in-between them.

If I had a real piano I would decorate with pictures of Valentina Lisitsa.

Except I would keep it forever.
