Currently:

1. Rach 3.
2. Rach 2.
3. Liszt 2.
4. Beethoven 4.
5. Tchaikovsky 1.
6. Prokofiev 2.
7. Liszt 1.
8. Chopin 1.
9. MacDowell 1.
10. Beethoven 3.

If we were including works that are for piano and orchestra that aren't labeled as piano concerti, i'd have put Totentanz in there somewhere.

Why don't we make it a discussion?  What about choosing one concerto from your list and saying something that you absolutely love about it and why?  What part do you tell all your friends to shut up when you are listening so you can just focus on the brilliance of the piece and let it move you?  I think the more I know about music the more I enjoy it when I am listening so with so many concerti I have never heard I would love to hear what YOU absolutely love about it so I can try to pick it out when I listen.  How about something simple like this.

For Chopin 1 I absolutely love the part in the first movement with the descending left hand scales.  In this clip it starts about a minute or so before the part I am talking about but I think it paves the way for it so have a listen and maybe you can understand what I mean :)  The part I am referring to starts at about 12:38 on the clip.

If anyone is still reading this thread then maybe you can add something like this as well in addition to the list? Or if you already posted your list just jump back in again? idk lol.

I love the Schumann concerto because it makes me think fondly of Schumann. I simply don't like his music. But I adore the concerto. I love the elgance of the opening theme and how it is passed from oboe to piano. I love the piano's arpeggios under the proceeding orchestral melody. I like the fact that it seems to treat melody as more important than virtuoso display (not that the two are mutually exclusive). I love watching Martha Argerich perform this piece.

hmm i love so many things about each of those i listed, but i'll start here for now:

the Rosza Op 31, man what an incredibly energetic work! to me it sounds like what Bartok might have put together were he charged with having to make film music for a 'sand and sandles' flick.
ala

(to be fair Alex North did an amazing job w the Spartacus score)

but one place that stuck out to me in particular when i first listened to this (i admit i had to stop my first play of it and rewind just to hear it again ) is the cadenza of the first movement, it is one of the most bitchin' 90 seconds or so i think has ever been written into a concerto (note i said one of, not 'THE" most)

i.e. six minutes and 40 seconds in... man , epic!

(in no particular order)
Rach 2
Rach 3
Liszt 1
Liszt 2
Chopin 1
Chopin 2
Grieg
Tchaikovsky 1
Chopin 1
Beethoven 5

I would put Totentanz if it counts as a concerto :/
(incidentally, this is my first post, everybody welcome me!  ;D)

Field 2
Mozart 17
Prokofiev 3
Prokofiev 5
Rach 3
Rach 4

Those are some of my favorites. Probably missed a few (I'm not sure if the Mozart or Liszt 2 are in my top ten...but whatever.) I have performed all these concertos except the Tchaikovsky which I am making good headway on learning currently. :)

Certain passages in Rach 3 are my favorites in the entire repertoire. For example, the G major theme in the finale after the first statement of the second theme, and the huge chordal restatement of the 2nd movement theme (if you don't know what I mean then look at the score, you can't miss it).

No love for the Scriabin?

Definitely a very early work. The second movement is almost unrecognizable as something from Scriabin, mainly due to the Romantic lightness and delicacy of it. Sometimes I wish he had composed a later concerto as well!

Resphighi Piano Concerto-

addendum. this now belongs in a tie and now occupies a place next to my slot for bortkiewicz.

can't believe i neglected to mention this (i had only for a long time heard the first movement, here it is finally in its entirety!).
omg it is stunning, a unbelievably beautiful work that shocks me that it remains as unknown/neglected as it does (i admit it took me a few years of explorative listening and recreational concerto hunting to stumble across it myself!)

Віктор Косенко (Viktor Kosenko) - Piano Concerto (1928)

also right now this one is coming dangerously close to knocking someone off the top 10 list -in a similar fashion to the kosenko (possible bump down to no 11 as this take a higher spot. i lisen to this think at least 1x a month)
