Advice on Rachmaninov concert program?
on: December 14, 2012, 02:35:18 AM
Hey guys,
I am playing a concert in a couple weeks and it will consist of 2 Rachmaninov concertos (the bigger one after the intermission) including the Rhapsody. Tell me what you think...which ones should I do? I probably want to end with the 3rd by the way. The program has to be in by next week.

The ones the conductor knows.

I think you shouldn't open 2 threads asking the same question.

Surprised the replies came in so fast. :)
First of all, the conductor is experienced and has done all of them multiple times. He just needs a little notice to go back over the scores I pick.

About posting two threads on one topic: you may not have noticed, but one is a forum and one is a poll. :)

Actually I did..

I'm probably just cranky, but I feel that poll or no poll there is a certain similarity between..

1. Whats your favourite concerto? vote on these options. I want to know to help pick my concert program.

and

2. I'm going to play 2 rachmaninoff concertos at a concert, what do you think?

I think you should do definitely do the third, and do one of the lesser known ones.

The fourth one is pretty good, but I think the first one is a little more kickass.

So start off with first, and end with third.

..more on topic though, I think rach_forevers thoughts are pretty on the money.. Though personally i wouldn't want to do 2 concerto's in the one night.

Its my sadistic nature, I'd get some pleasure out of making an orchestra sit around bored while i took all the attention.

It's more usually the soloist who is sitting around.

I have a raised piano. I stand while playing...

...or atleast I did when I was playing in the hiphop band.

1 and 3 sounds good to me. I'll likely do that.
