Music Composed by the Russian Nationalists
on: December 25, 2012, 12:31:38 AM
Hi, does anybody know any famous piano pieces composed by "The Mighty Five" (Balakirev, Mussorgsky, etc.) and/or Glinka?
Bach Prelude and Fugue BWV848
Beethoven Piano Sonata Op.13
Chopin Etude Op.10 No.4
Chopin Scherzo Op.31
Mussorgsky "The Great Gate of Kiev" from Pictures at an Exhibition

Do you think everyone who doesn't post for a while is dead? (Don't take this as an insult)

That's just an expression used when someone is missing for a while.  For instance, "I haven't seen you in a minute" is often used in my neighborhood.  The owner of my local skateshop says that to me whenever I go missing for a while as well.

*I'm gone for a couple months*

Matt:  dude where the hell were you?!  I thought you freaking died!  I was going to give your family my condolences like next week.

I was about to play a trio by Glinka in Dm, it's for piano, bassoon and clarinet or oboe? (can't remember the third one, but it's wood wind for sure) it didn't attract me at all, so, fortunately for me the next day I got the sheet music the bassoonist had to get her appendix surgery, so we ended playing something else; not that I'm glad she got the surgery, but I didn't want to play the trio. (just found out it's played with cello?)

Mussorgsky's famous Night on the Bald Mountain, made popular thanks to Disney's Fantasia, there's a piano transcription actually:

Balakiriev's Islamey:

Balakirev's Toccata is a pretty damn fine piece in my opinion. There is also Borodin's Petite Suite. Rimsky-Korsakov's piano concerto is a rather beautiful piece of music.
