Employers can fire workers they find too sexy
on: December 25, 2012, 03:25:29 PM
The Iowa Supreme Court ruled on Friday that employers in the state can legally fire workers they find too attractive. Seven justices, all men, said the basic question presented by the case was "whether an employee who has not engaged in flirtatious conduct may be lawfully terminated simply because the boss views the employee as an irresistible attraction."  A hot  and sexy employee is "like having a Lamborghini in the garage and never driving it."  hehee :) ;) :D ;D

I wonder how many will lose their jobs because of this???? :o ::) :P :-\ :'(

Too bad you couldn't see the pictures of the people fired. :(

No but yeah, America freaking sucks for stupid lawsuits.

These last few years my school has been sued so often they had to make all these ridiculous changes to the school rules to stop getting sued.  Some ass hole sued my school because two years after she graduated, her mother wanted to see her sophomore year first semester chemistry final.  So now the school has to keep all of our test scores for seven years.

We're the most sued high school in the nation lol.

That's ridiculous. Especially the sophomore year first semester chemistry final. I never had to worry about this as I spent my first high school year in Japan and the rest in a prestigious private school in California. At least I think it was private, as I had to take something like 4 tests to get in and classes were just as hard, if not harder, than the ones in Japan, and the school was pretty small.

Do keep in mind that there is a political motive behind every story you read. There are always relevant facts left out. It was reported as a ridiculous lawsuit to slam judges or to advance women's lib or maybe some other cause to get women to cover up and stay home.

A woman in scrubs? Have you been to a bar or night club recently that have women servers or bartenders?

Well, I was planning on moving to the USA, but not on relying on welfare for a living.

Don't move here. America is stupid, as shown by both the article and the author of the article. It's even worse when you move here. The government has no idea what they are doing anfd everyone is stupid. I should have never left London...

Thanks for the heads up.  8)

Oi...  I wonder if it's like mob mentality... After you rise to a certain level common sense is kind of out the window.  I had a flashback of Dr. Strangelove there.

In teaching, male or female, being attractive can be a negative thing.  You don't really want that attention from the students.  Some students are nuts.  And other teachers can get jealous and they can be a clicky bunch.

This is not a great time to watch news.  It feels like the world is going nuts.

See, exactly what I mean when I say Americans are stupid. You should see the Japanese, they seem to be knowledgeable. Even though I live here, I don't consider myself American. I would sort of say Indian, but I've lived in so many places it's hard to tell.

Not surprised at all, but the responses I think would be similar if you asked the man on the street in many countries of the world.  More accurate responses are usual if questions asked are those related to the entertainment industry ..... like "who is lady Gaga?" or "Who is Brad Pitt" ?... I bet most of everyone will be able to answer.

I remember a similar video clip in the 1990's with the question - "who is Al Gore?"  Out of 3 asked only one was able to answer correctly ... the Vice-President.  The funniest answer was - "side-kick of Clinton?"  ;D ;D

I gave an exam once to my students with the question of "who is Kofi Annan?" ... almost 1/2 of the group failed to get it right.  One answered - "owner of Starbucks".. ;D :D  However at the same time I also asked the names of the children of a popular movie star couple ... they had 4 children and practically all the students were able to answer the question... at most a few students missed the name of one child.
