Liszt Transcendental Etude No. 5 "Feux Follets"
on: December 30, 2012, 01:23:33 AM

Recording and playing quality isn't as great as I'd hoped for, but any feedback would be greatly appreciate as auditions are coming around.

Perhaps it's the camera's fault, but the pianissimo sections aren't soft enough. Other than that, I liked your performance.

Hey! Congratz on a fine performance of that extremely difficult piece! Something's missing at 2:02, should be thirds no? Anyway it's crisp and clean I liked it very much!

The thirds at 2:02 is actually optional. You can do that or what you see pfhorrest do. I prefer the thirds because it's easier and it's personal preference in the end.

The part at 2:40-2:50, one of the toughest passages to clarify the melody. The clarity of melody is there, however, the dynamics are the same.

In regards to phrasing, you can polish it further if you want, although you already know what you can polish up should you choose to.

I have played this etude myself, and I find that the slower I can play it, the better control I have over the piece.

Overall, good performance.

A little more feeling wouldn't hurt. Very clean though. Cleaner than a couple of my concert performances actually...:P Don't like to remember those.
I suggest trying to play the piece slowly and incorporate dynamic nuances as well as expression with the phrasing and so forth.
