the guy on the right, seems to be a wind instrument (sounds 'wood-windy'), almost a double reed type sound ala oboe but also like a harmonica of some sort, but it has a keyboard. super interesting, i might even want one, what the heck is that?

**scurries off to the interwebs to see if one can be had on the cheap....
edit- sure enough. prices are everywhere, yamaha seems to make a nice one but pricey. the lower end 37 key ones are nice too and cheap. adding to amazon wish list.

It's used in Elemantary Schools' music education in my country (Turkey). It is a monophonic woodwind instrument. And it's really easy to play. Also it is really cheap.

i saw some attractive options. suzuki makes a 'proffesional model' , that one is super expensive, in the 400 USD range from what i saw. it's nice but i don't see it as 10x nice as the 40-100 USD option ones. its super interesting, i really may get one in the somewhat near future (cash strapped at the momment as i am upgrading electronic recording equipment).

thanks for the information! :D :D :D :D

my bad, i would have searched it but since i didn't know what it was called, well you know...

btw super cool 'artistic' solo

The Japanese-born pianist Suguru Ito performs his own Csardas Paraphrase for melodica solo (2009) - after Vittorio Monti's celebrated Csardas. Live in Concert at the Hotel Japan Shiga.

Suguru Ito has given on melodica many solo recitals and made numerous recordings for European and Russian radio stations, performing works by Bach, Tartini, Mozart, Kreisler, Schoenberg, Piazzolla, Ligeti, Gubaidulina, Chick Corea etc.

Instrument: Yamaha-Pianica P-37D (3 octaves)

To be honest the "hose" part looks a bit silly. I kind of prefer the one without it in your first video...Look much cooler to play it like that :)

You don't really see too many pics like that with a chick and a pianica.

Or don't see any pics of a chick and pianica..... Haha.  Someone needs to photoshop one in.

Well it took awhile, but I found one.  I'm not posting it.  It's actually not that bad.  You can search for funk melodica and you'll run across it.

I also found this picture of a school of melodicas attacking a group of children.  Note how the melodica uses it tail in an attempt to strangle people.

Very similar to Aliens....

This is funny. On December 31st I heard jazz pianist Monty Alexander here at Blues Alley in Washington, D.C. for new years. And he did one number where he was playing EXACTLY THAT SAME INSTRUMENT pictured on this thread....

ive always liked this youtube sensation of a group j rabbit. the girls are insanely talented (the pianist is a great improver and has nice skills) and the singer really has a great voice. their enthusiasm is awesome! they have these expressions that i can only describe as 'joy' cool melodica action here by both of them.
