I need etudes/exercises for CHORD MELODIES.
on: January 03, 2013, 07:16:42 PM
Hallo guys,

Do you know some etudes or exercises that can help me to improve fast chord changes with the left hand? I mean, something like playing a melody that consists of only chords.
I hope it is clear what i mean haha if not i will try to explain again.

Thanks in advance

I don't have the book at hand right now, but try looking for one in Czerny's op.740. I don't remember if it has one or not, but you don't lose anything by searching for one there.

The best one I know is Moszkowski, 15 etude Op 72 n3

then there is Moscheles Etude Op70 n2 but cant find any rocording sorry, I find the the Moscheles one not ass nice but still a great chord study for booth hands

Other then that you could just go for Rachmaninov prelude op 3 2 there some great chords and definitely no comparison to any other study in a musical way, the piece is beautiful!

hope this helps

Actually, I have no idea why I completely forgot about Moszkowski op 72. The only problem with those is that they are like 1 level below Chopin's etudes, regarding difficulty, so if you can find something that's right below those first, it would be good, unless you already play some of them.

I have played allot of Heller Etude OP 45 and 46, Op 46 has some interesting etude that are around grade 7,  some focuses on chords , repeated chords and broken chords. there is also op 47 though i have not played any in this book.  Other then that i can only think of Burgmuller op 109, would say grade 7 and op 105, that would be more around grade 8/8+

Thalberg op. 26 #4. Exactly what you're looking for, AND a pretty good piece. I can't play it but its definitely on my to do list haha.
