They go good together eh? Anyone else agree?

Is anyone else fed up with Anti Smokers? (I dont mean non-smokers)  I mean people who try to impose their will on you?

Yeh, I'm really starting to get sick of clean air.  Second hand smoke would liven my day, but only if mixed with the acrid odor of coffee.

that's disgusting. i do not understand how you managed to start smoking in the first place cos it smells disgusting. and then if i go out clubbing i come home with my clothes wreaking of smoke. it's really quite disgusting if i haven't already said that. i hope you all die of lung cancer. have some cosideration for those who would rather have clean lungs, or ar artists and spend their time with toxic paints, and so inhaling your ciggie smoke, you are increasing our chances by a huge amount of getting some form of cancer or poison.
so stop blowing it in our freakin faces!

but coffee is good by itself, or with tim tams, provided i didn't make it and it's not espresso.

Well. Here in Canada where I live, you can't smoke anywhere inside so the smoke only goes in you're face if your talking to me. And that little bit of smoke doesn't do anything. You guys are all brainwashed second hand smoke has not been proven to do s***! I mean I'm sure it does considering what the first hand does but come on if I'm outside smoking, don't walk by me and go *cough cough* and look at me like who the hell is this guy.

As for the smell....well Tash i apologize on behalf of all the smokers in the world it is a terrible smell. My parents say they can smell me as soon as I open the door.

i hope you all die of lung cancer.

I hate antismokers - people who take your cigarettes and thro them away - who the hell do they think they are? Non-smokers are fine though.

I really only smoke when I drink (I spent this whole past weekend in NYC with my best friends drinking and wandering the streets), but that's quite often. I really think that cigarettes go well with both coffee AND alcohol. Who's with me on this?

i used to smoke whenever i drank but then one time i got completely trashed and was chain-smoking. ugh the morning after was not a pleasant experience i was really short of breath and hungover. That experience was enough to make me never want to smoke again.

Once upon a time a guy asked me:

“Do you mind if I smoke?”

I replied:

“Not at all. As long as you don’t exhale…” ;D

(By the way, I dislike coffee – and its smell – as well. One of the most distressing things that I can experience is to go for a beautiful chocolate and find out on chewing it that it has a coffee centre. Argh. >:()

Best wishes,

Your right Spatula but it's also a fact my grandpa smoked his entire life and died peacefully in his sleep at the age of 81.  So it's not as definite as you think. The Anti Smoking Nazi's get you thinking that.  Believe me I know there are large health risks invovled, but it's not necessarily like the commercials you see. That's TV.

This verse from a South Park musical number best describes my feelings :P:

"I like to have a cigarette every now and then
It makes me feel calmer when the day is at an end
And if it gives me cancer when I'm eighty I don't care,
who the hell wants to be ninety anyway?"

From the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Vol 80, p862 (2004):

Associations between coffee consumption and inflammatory markers in healthy persons: the ATTICA study
Antonis Zampelas, Demosthenes B Panagiotakos, Christos Pitsavos, Christina Chrysohoou and Christodoulos Stefanadis

1 From the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Harokopio University, Athens, Greece (AZ and DBP); and the First Cardiology Clinic, School of Medicine, University of Athens, Greece (CP, CC, and CS).

Background: The effect of coffee consumption on the cardiovascular system is conflicting. Inflammation is important to the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD), and several dietary factors are thought to exert significant effects on inflammation and thus on the risk of CVD.

Objective: We aimed to investigate the associations between coffee consumption and inflammatory markers.

Design: The cross-sectional survey enrolled 1514 men ( ± SD age: 46 ± 13 y; range: 18–87 y) and 1528 women (aged 45 ± 13 y; range: 18–89 y). Five percent of men and 3% of women were excluded for history of CVD. Fasting blood samples were collected. Dietary habits (including consumption of various types of coffee) were evaluated by using a validated food-frequency questionnaire.

Results: Compared with coffee nondrinkers, men who consumed >200 mL coffee/d had 50% higher interleukin 6 (IL-6), 30% higher C-reactive protein (CRP), 12% higher serum amyloid-A (SAA), and 28% higher tumor necrosis factor  (TNF-) concentrations and 3% higher white blood cell (WBC) counts (all: P < 0.05). Women who consumed >200 mL coffee/d had 54% higher IL-6, 38% higher CRP, 28% higher SAA, and 28% higher TNF- concentrations and 4% higher WBC counts (all: P < 0.05) than did coffee nondrinkers. The findings were significant even after control for the interactions between coffee consumption and age, sex, smoking, body mass index, physical activity status, and other covariates.

Conclusions: A relation exists between moderate-to-high coffee consumption and increased inflammation process. This relation could explain, in part, the effect of increased coffee intake on the cardiovascular system.

My conclusion to all this crap: Life is the number one cause of death, just like marriage is the main reason for divorce!

My motto: Live and let live!  :D

Smoking ? Both my parents smoked and it significantly damaged their health and happiness in later years. I have never tried smoking, even as a child. I guess having to constantly escape from smoke filled rooms gave me a permanent desire to avoid it.

Alcohol ? I went through a mildly boozy stage in my twenties but I came to the conclusion it wasn’t doing me much good and stopped. I am not teetotal. Every now and then I have a glass of wine or a brandy with my tea, but after one glass I have no inclination to drink another. It has somehow lost its charm.

Coffee ? I go through phases of drinking it, but no more than one or two cups a day.

i can relate to practically all of that.

black is gross, i tried an espresso shot once and nearly vomited it was so repulsive. go moccas!

yes i realise that it's the nicotine that makes you addicted, but why did you smoke in the first place, before getting hooked on the nicotine, like obviously it's gonna be more than just smelling it that makes you try it in the first place and that's the bit i don't understand.

true that everyone's gonna die in the end anyway, but the coughing and stuff of smokers is also repulsive. and then they complain that they're always coughing and i'm like well i wonder why it's your own damn fault. my grandmother and step-grandmother and my granduncle both smoked and got whatever that thing is that starts with an 'e' and ends with an 'ima', and they were on crazy breathing machines and it freaked me out. now my dad smokes and he seems to be ok, i just get his leftover smoke since he's in the room next to me.

Well good for all of you. Ted I realize a lot of people have personal issues with smoking and I'm glad to see you are not a anti-smoking nazi because of your own. Your smart enough to stay away yourself.

For the most part I'm not surpirised at the general responses. Respect to Xvimbi and Chopiabin - Although one smoked and the other did not, they both respect the chioce of the smoker.

Because what alot of you, (tash_tiara you're seriously great I'm not refering to you ;),) need to realize is that it IS THE CHOICE OF THE PERSON SMOKING TO SMOKE. The brief seconds you walk by someone smoking are not going to give you cancer so don't fake a cough you f***ing douche bag hippies.

And guess what? GOD CREATED TOBACCO.

I'm personally against smoking especially in the public place. I know it's just a personal choice..but seriously there is no reasonable excuse for smoking besides its addictive property. Unlike coffee or alcohol, which do not have any permanently detrimental effect at a relatively low and controlled dosage, tobacco is different....it's a cocktail of all sorts of carcinogenic compounds. Some of people that I know recently died from tobacco-related cancers, and I do feel strong about it. If you want to keep smoking, that's fine...it's your choice....but please...I repeat this.....please refrain from smoking in the public place with lots of people around. Rob47....just you know...people (I'd say the majority at least) do not fake a cough....it really bothers them....I'm saying this from my experience. Whenever I walk by a smoker, I get this stinging sensation in my nasal cavity, eye, throat.....etc. Also, second-hand smoking will not decrease the chance of cancer, either...if not increase it....so what's the point of inhaling all the unnecessary unpleasant smoke? All I'm saying is let's just be a little more considerate.

I don't smoke or drink coffe. I can't smoke really. I am allergic to smoke. I get around it and my lungs close up and I can't breathe.  SO, it isn't always about not liking the smell, which I dont like either. But it can cause problems for other people.

Your high school nurse has a point. I started when I was eleven hanging out with 14 year olds.  But I really did like it from day one and still do, only now I don't care about looking cool, I'm just addicted  :o

But I blame myself. It wasn't for "social acceptance", (come on we are musicians here: we're naturally the coolest), it was more rebelliousness, and just generally being a stupid kid. Same reasons I started smoking weed. (A year later, although I no longer do)

Anyways, mmmmmm I'm going to step out right now and have one with my coffee!

I think that mostly all these types of things start out as a way to either
1. to Be cool
2. to Act rebelious
3. something to do

I live in a small community, and there is nothing to do except play hockey, play some music, or get drunk or high.  Thats how i picked up some bad habbits, but thats part of learning.  Learning from your mistakes is very important.  Thats why parents should ground kids and junk for drinking.  Its not all that bad for you if you take it in moderation.  Just as long as they learn that its a bad thing to do all the time.

Yes, an old old thread from my second era on pianoforum, (i think right now it's the third, possibly fourth).

Anyway, I think I am going to stop smoking cigarettes.  I dont want to hear any "good for uRob", "you can do it". It's not good, I love smoking. And I can do it, it's just going to suck.

But it 'occured' to me today, that at 22 years old I've already smoked for half my life.

So, im just going to stop, completely cold turkey, right after this post.

Agreed, I can't stand anti-smokers and I don't even smoke. :P  If anyone's seen the South Park episode about smoking, they'll know my feelings(and they can hear the tobacco song that's now stuck in my head b/c of this thread) on the subject.  I really dislike being around smokers.  I find the smell of smoke disgusting, but if you want to do it, go ahead.

BTW does anyone else absolutely hate the anti-smoking commercials?  I rank them down with Old Navy and McDonalds commercials; although, McDonalds and Old Navy at least aren't propaganda.

I smoked for many, many years.  I successfully quit smoking some time ago, cold-turkey.  I now consider myself an EX-smoker, but am not by any stretch of the imagination an ANTI-smoker.  I understand how difficult it is to quit, I had made literally hundreds of attempts at quitting without success.  I will never smoke another cigarette because I doubt I would be able to successfully quit again before it killed me.

I drink a ton of coffee though...

i too am an ex smoker, though again not an anti one.  I didn't smoke that long only about 3 or 4 years but it was still long enough to finally get rid of it.  I was just so sick of waking up hung over and with the worst cough mixed with a sore throught every time i went out, and the cough never went away.  I think if you actually want to quit you will.  I've made half hearted attempts once or twice before but if you actually are sick of smoking it's doable.  Hard but doable.

Now i just leave you with one question that has always bothered me.  I can understand how someone could think to themselves "heres a leaf, why don't i roll this up, light it on fire, and breath in whatever comes out the end?".  But what idiot would ever have done that twice?

Hey all you smokers out their. Myself, having smoked (and drunk coffee) for quite a few years, I'm finding it increasingly hard to quit. So now I don't bother so much. I know what it's doing to me, but hey, you gotta go somehow. So, for all the smokers, what's your favourite brand? Ine'd be either Marlboro full strength. or Rothman King Size, or when I can get 'em Gitanes, You gotta have taste. BTW I'm new here, been on the Piano World forums a while, so hi to everyone.

:O you smoke!? :( - tsk tsk -

i'd just like to direct people's attention to nicotine patches/sweets/chewing gum.

oh and 2nd hand smoking theoretically is just as bad as inhaling car exhausts while walking on a street. Most of the toxins and crap are filtered by the lungs and the nostrils, and so all that's left after exhale is CO. of cours, that's only a theory.its obviously quite possible that not all of it is absorbed/filtered.
