"*trying to combat some of the nonsense littering the board lately so apologies if this does not actually result in any meaningful discussion but that's the point of this board right? not just a 'list your favorite.... or how hard/what's the easiest ______ ....."
not more Rachmaninoff but I mean more stuff like this new concert piece in general? I mean this has been reasonably successful in its first few years 'around the block'.

I rather like the idea of modern re-thiniking of symphonies (really symphonic works in general not just those strictly in the traditional form), being transcribed as concerto or piano + orchestra pieces pieces (as with eventual commercial success the trickling down of two piano reductions for the us-the masses).

anyone else really think this should happen (MUCH) more often that it does? I have a mental list of orchestra/wind band/mixed ensemble works that I would love to have access to!

fyi in case you missed it back in 2008 (already since then quite a no of pianists have picked this up for 'variety' sake i suppose).

I didn't start this to get folks that are obsessed with Rachmaninoff all gushy about this particular work all roused oup about this and only this addition to the concert repertoire-(nothing wrong it IMHO- but though I like Rachmaninoff, I dont' absolutely love his music music, i tend to enjoy listening it on occassion more than any real desire to learn/play it :o ::) )

rather i hope we can get a interesting list and discussion related to such things about other works that you feel would translate well to the 'concerto' forumula.

i'll post some thoughts / 'wishlist' s myself here soon as well.

there is another side to this which I actually agree wtih as well so I am a bit on the fence at times.

there are many works that are so beautiful (almost perfect or as close to perfect as it gets) that any attempt to modify them would only result in a lesser work on the finest of execution (not in a purist hodgey podgey notion but just from a tehoretical musical perspective,i.e. loss of subtle voicng combinations, etc).

also with so many sadly ignored already fine piano concertos, do those deserve to get bumped in favor of visiting new works that already found success (or failed) as concert works in their previous lives?

thare are far too many fine concerto's that never see the recording studio or concert hall so i guess though i'd be happy to have more out there, it does sadden me that other fantastic pieces would continue to languish in relative obscurity (a thought shared by someone who'm i know is very knowledgeable on the matter and a sentiment that the more i think about it, the more i tend to agree with him)
