Pieces of about the same level as these?
on: January 13, 2013, 09:43:22 PM
Hi everyone!!

I am currently playing the following repertoire:

Bach - Prelude & Fugue I & II from the Well-Tempered Klavier Book I
Mozart - Sonata K331
Beethoven - Sonata op. 27 n°2 'Moonlight' (no third movement as I think it is still beyond my current level)
Beethoven - Sonata op. 10 n°2
Chopin - Prelude op. 28 n°4
Chopin - Nocturne op. 15 n°3
Chopin - Waltz op. 69 n°1 & 2
Schubert - Impromptu op. 90 n°2
Schumann - some easy pieces from Kinderszenen

As far as exercises are concerned, I am playing some etudes from Pozzoli's "Studi a moto rapido"

I would like to know which of the following pieces you'd recommend tackling next based on my current level. These are all pieces I like a lot:

Chopin - Waltz op. 18 (seems a bit tough though for my current level, do you agree?)
Chopin - Waltz op. 64 n°2
Chopin - Nocturne op. 9 n°2
Mozart - Sonata K333 or Sonata K457 (I love this one especially)
Rachmaninov - Prelude op. 3 n°2 (again, maybe a bit too far?)
Beethoven - Sonata op. 10 n°1, or one of the two op. 14 (are they easier or more difficult than 10/2???)
Debussy - Arabesque n°1, or some easy preludes like La filles aux cheveux de lin
Debussy - Children's Corner
Grieg - Lyric piece op. 54 n°3 ('Troldtog')

Do you think I can make it to play these pieces? Normally I practice 1.30-2h a day (I don't have much time unfortunately)

Thank you very much!

Michele

I'd suggest more Debussy at least to dip the tip of your little finger into the early 20th century.
Piano: Yamaha C7 (at home)
Organ: Viscount Vivace 40 (at home) and Hill & Son pipe organ (at church)

Currently working on: Chopin Polonaise Op. 53

Thanks a lot!!! IN fact, I have no experience with 20th century pieces and Debussy would be a good start.. Do you think the pieces I listed are doable, considered my current level?

Cheers!
