I know each one probably has different expectations.  I want to study music, I have looked at universities and conservatoires and I seem to feel more drawn to the conservatoires, but I know they are difficult to get a place in.

They all pretty much state that the minimum requirement is to have a technical achievement of at least grade 8 standard which can be demonstrated at the audition.

I'm going to be doing my grade 8 in a few months, so I'm probably considered below the borderline of what is accepted.

I have read that it's not always about the technical ability but more the musicality..etc  but I would still like to have a rough idea of what technical level is truly accepted if grade 8 is only the minimum.

If you have any idea or experience in this, please share! or perhaps suggest pieces, not to play but so I can use to gauge how realistic it would be for me to consider a conservatoire an option in the next year or so.

And I hope I'm okay posting this topic in this section.. I don't post often here!

You should discuss your ambitions with your teacher.  He or she will be able to assess your strengths and weaknesses and give you a plan to bring you to where you need to be.

I'm not sure, but I think that "Grade 8" in the ABRSM system is a good indication for the minimum required skills. You can download their syllabuses by region. Here is an example of what sylabusses are for Hong Kong (downloadable in .pdf format, language = English):
https://www.abrsm.org/en/regions/hong-kong/hong-kong/about-abrsm/syllabuses/
As you can see, there are 3 parts:
- Aural Tests
- Theory of Music
- Piano
