Schubert Op. 90 #1 tempo
on: January 16, 2013, 11:15:45 PM
particularly directed at folks who play it, and play it well...

The edition I have has a metronome marking of a quarter note = 108.  It seems to me that this is, perhaps, a little fast?  It seems to "sing" better to my ear at perhaps 90, or maybe a little faster?  It's not a question of technique -- although I'm still working on it, I can play it at that tempo, but...

So the question is... what, more or less, do you play it at?

Comments and suggestions gratefully accepted!

Neither the edition I have, nor the three on IMSLP have a metronome mark given, so it would appear to be editorial.

Not using a metronome for this myself (quelle surprise:P) I'm not sure of the mm pace I go at, but my advice is to trust your instincts over some editor's.

I almost never use the dang things myself (although I've never actually thrown one across the room...) but I just happened to get curious.  I'll learn...

Haha, try it. It's the most fun you can have with a metronome. Just be careful what you hit.  ;D
