Mephisto Valse no 1
on: January 19, 2013, 11:42:45 PM
So, I have a question! Are there different versions(longer and shorter one)? Because I just learnt the one from a dover book, but I found a midi file which has an extended middle section, I think. So, does anyone have an opinion about this? I can't remember if I have ever heard the longer version performed. Does anyone have the score? Thanks!!

There are six different editions on IMSLP, perhaps you should check those.
https://imslp.org/wiki/Mephisto_Waltz_No.1,_S.514_(Liszt,_Franz)
That said, there is an extended version, S514a, though I do not have a copy of it, and IMSLP appears to be unaware of it. The midi you have is most probably of that.
The dover one you have learnt is S.514 and is the most commonly played.

9.5 to 12 minutes, depending on taste.

hi
thanks for ansers, my question was about the time of studing.
but 11 minutes is a good time for this. i think if you play too fast the music is not so brilliant.
i dont want to get on your nervs so i dont questionnair you
maybe later ...
thanks

I agree. But the scales should always be played fast.
