The board called the "Audition Room" is specifically for this. There are perhaps thousands of threads.

In the interest of sharing - this was one of me.

This is me... I've done all sorts of arrangements, and random bits of music. If you're interested... worth checking out my Pirates of the Caribbean arrangement.

I've just begun posting my compositions that I provide sheet music for ...this is my first video of a SATB + piano setting of verses from Psalms 89. The piano accompaniment contributes as much as the voices do! I love when choral pieces give the piano something to do  ;) Also, believe it or not, but the choir is comprised of only 6 voices! The wonders of ProTools recording software!

I'm really glad I made this thread, I've had a good hour of 2 of listening pleasure because of it!

I didn't realize so many people here recorded their talents, I especially like Pirates of the Carribean and the Max Payne theme, those kind of songs really grab my interests because they are so memorable for me. I play a lot of classical stuff myself but rarely do I record it.

I found this forum through a web search on Ear Training about 6months back. I don't play Piano but I love it here, not sure if I should share what I have recorded here as I know it's not the right place for Guitar players as such but here goes.

Bastion - Setting Sail, Coming home (videogame)
IcT7g&index=1

Rambo - First Blood (movie)
IcT7g&index=2

I will do Men Behaving Badly/Red Dwarf and........ cough cough** Fireman Sam next, lol. As I said, don't really take it too seriously.

Good Job on your piano playing! I think there are so many talented people here, I always choose you guys/girls for advice on various music topics, This forum has never let me down yet, I'm a little out of place because I am a guitar player but music theory is Universal right? hehe :)

Thanks so much for your message James! It really means a lot to me that you took the time to visit my channel and listen. Jurassic Park is such a fun piece to play. I may re-record that one at a later point, now that I have a full-sized piano :)

Really into game music as well. Some games I remember best just because of their soundtracks. The same with films actually.

Do you have a Youtube channel yourself? How long have you been playing piano for?

Thank you so much Dcstudio! You are absolutely right, it really does make a difference being able to choose music that means something to you. :D

When I was younger I took guitar lessons, but stopped after grade 7 because the stress of exams and being restrained to pieces I didn't care about took the enjoyment out of it. The thought of feeling that way about the piano scares me, which is why I've never had piano lessons, and have probably picked up some bad habits/techniques along the way! Are you a piano teacher, out of interest?

Thanks again for listening :) And thanks to James for creating this post, which has provided links to some really great YT channels.

yes I am--and might I say...for having never had a lesson--your technique is naturally quite good :)  far better than some students who have been in it for years...   Do you learn from YT vids--or do you read--don't worry I won't tell you that you must learn to read if you don't.  I am curious  as to how you think about what you are playing--not in the abstract...I mean the notes you play--do you remember chords, or finger memory...   I have taught many older students who figured it out on their own.  Were you in band or something--you have GREAT time...  and let me tell you THAT is rare...very impressive.. 8)

Thank you very much! It is a real compliment to receive such a comment from a teacher, and it is also nice to know I have not gone completely off track with the way I play! It is hard to judge without guidance from someone who knows their stuff! It is really interesting to speak to a piano teacher as I have not done so before. May I ask how long you have taught piano for?

I always read music when learning a new song. Learning to play the guitar taught me most of what I need to know about sheet music, although it was a long battle to learn the bass clef after 9 years of playing only the treble! I rely on the sheets at first, and then I find I memorise pieces unintentionally just from playing them so much. But I will always return to the sheets because memory fades, and unless you play the song every day, you cannot rely on it. I have not played in a band, I think I just become lost in the music and it is all I can hear and think about and so the timing just sort of comes with that :)

;D thanks --  I have taught piano for about 20 years...   and you do quite well...    what is your most difficult piece?  It is interesting to see students who are self-taught--you seem to be a cut above the norm. the fact that you read--and you are a guitar player--that is uncommon as well--tabs notwithstanding, of course---very impressive.. ;D

Thank you dcstudio! Twenty years of experience is very impressive!

Chopin's Nocturne op. 9 no. 2 took the longest to learn because I learnt it in the early days, but I find it very easy to play now. The most difficult piece to play (in terms of physical challenge) is probably Mansell's Lux Aeterna, which has lots of fast octave jumps. Einaudi's Andare looked to be a challenge at first but I actually found it easy to learn. Chords are my main bug bear, as I find jumping around the keys and finding positions tricky without practising over and over.

At the moment I am looking to buy a piano exam book to challenge myself and test my limits. If you were to recommend a book or some new pieces to create a suitable challenge, what grade would you suggest I might look in to?

Thanks, Emma

There are so many--PM me and let me ask you a few things to find out what your goals are...so I can recommend one that is suited to your needs.   You really are quite good... piano lessons come in many styles these days--there are alternatives to the strict traditional method..  not that there's anything wrong with the strict traditional way...but it's not for everyone.  :)

I really apologize Emma, and dcstudio I have been away from home for a bit and haven't had a chance to check my bookmarks.

Emma, I am unfortunately not a Piano player, I just love listening to it so much, I play guitar and had been playing for 5+ years or so. I feel like it would take me another 5 years to get good at playing Piano and then I would lose all the hard work put into guitar? As I've paid a lot of money for teachers, and done a few grades etc. I'm not sure if this is the case? Main reason is that I havn't got the room for a piano as of now. When I move into a bigger place the first thing I am going to buy is a Piano though!

I will drop you a comment in one of your videos in a minute Emma. Then you will see my Utube channel from there.. Or otherwise I actually put a link to 2 of my video's in this thread. One of them is the Rambo - First Blood theme. And the other is off of a videogame called Bastion. Which is probably my favourite one so far.

dcstudio - I play guitar and read music. I agree it's so uncommon and Barr my teacher, he is the only one that I know who reads music (personally) It really is important, there is no other method which forces you to really get to know your fingerboard and all the notes within, plus you can analyze music just by looking at it. Reading music in my opinion feels like it is just as fundamentally important as learning the Major Scale. I may be in the minority here, but I rather had a lot of fun learning how to read music too!

I have a few good Utube videos to watch now! Going to check out your guitar video too dcstudio :P hehe

Hey, no worries James! I should be apologising for spamming your post with all these messages! Sorry!

It is great to meet another guitar player, and your skills are really impressive. Your Bastion theme sounds just perfect and I particularly like your Zelda and Silent Hill themes too as they bring back a lot of good memories :) What a great sound! How do you record your music? I wanted to upload some guitar videos but don't have a decent recording set up.

Learning the piano actually enhanced my guitar playing, as it helped me to become more confident with the technicalities of reading music. You should totally learn, as you've definitely got the musical talent! I also agree with your comment to Dcstudio about the necessity of learning to read music, and it is hard to imagine how people manage without.

Emma :)

....Learning the guitar actually enhanced my piano skills lol  as far as reading goes--I have been proficient at reading music for 35 years... reading music has allowed me to make money--my education paid for itself many times over.   With that being said--I have been playing by ear proficiently since the first time I managed to climb up onto the bench..

I perform often and usually 3-4 45 minute sets---think of how much music you would have to cart with you...  How much music would you have to read then memorize to fill up that kind of time?

keep in mind I am 48 years old--I am sure you can do a little playing by ear--now imagine that you played by ear for four decades---that "app" would be pretty strong.   Reading music requires that I take it in visually then translate it to sounds and locations and rhythm ...taking more nanoseconds to complete the transfer of info.

in a small performance setting---the ability to play a song for someone that you have never played before--and have it turn out nicely even without sheet music--is cool.

Dc - I'm impressed by your skills and experience and wish I could play by ear. It is just not something I've ever been able to do and that is my flaw. Sheet music is really important to me in the first instance, but then as I learn a piece I am able to play without the sheets sitting in front of me. That is when I know I am truly comfortable with playing it. I enjoy playing without sheets too because it allows me to make the music my own and put emotion into it without being told when to pause or when to soften or louden the notes. At the same time, sheets are fundamental to me because without them I would not be able to play at all.

I wish I could do what you do and play a new piece well without sheets and without ever having played it before. That shows great talent.

Why thank you..  you keep at reading--you will get better.   I know you can play by ear--even though your don't think you can. start simple "twinkle twinkle" in C...start with the melody--just hunt and peck...

I've only put up one recording, but just made another today and teacher should get it to me sometime soon.

I plan to record the entire OST of Majora's Mask because the music in that game is really top notch. I mean I'm not just saying that as a videogame fan etc, like actually getting the official scores and seeing all the harmonic devices among other things used in the pieces really wows me. I'm really quite impressed with how much genuine effort was made to compose appropriately evocative pieces.

Anyway here's all I've posted up, I made a thread for it a while back but it's my duty to Koji Kondo to spread his music so here it is again.
