Extra Study
on: February 12, 2013, 04:25:22 AM
Hi all, since my last post I've decided to stick with "study with teacher" route. However, since I've stockpile a lot of jazz piano book which include theory books, theory+exercise books, and play a longs that I want to use them (or integrate) them into my work with my teacher. However, my teacher also has her own assignments for me such as chord inversions, jazz pieces, etc.

Unfortunately, these homework pretty much do not match the books that I have except some basic stuffs such as triads, seventh chords, scales (maybe because she thinks that I am still a beginner, which I am) Can I ask her to teach me according to book that I have (most of it receives a lot of positive reviews and highly recommend from a lot of readers) or should I stick with her assignments and study those books some other times, and the big word here is "TIME" which I don't have much work, wife, kid, cooking exercise bla bla bla If we can combine them into my assignment, it would be great. However, I feel like I might look kind of like "insult" by not trusting her methods.

I don't see how her method takes over your interests.  I assume that your teacher's interests are the same as yours, just with a lot more experience in how to get there quicker.  But, you can ask her about it to see if she can integrate them.
