Steinway Model M Price
on: February 15, 2013, 01:12:18 AM
Dealer quoted me $50K (tax/delivery included) on brand new model M. MSRP is approx $62K. Any thoughts on this discount? Is this typical?

I do have thoughts on it, but mine is not the end all of opinions. I do however live in NY and visit the Steinway showroom in Manhattan and a new one on Long Island. Is the dealer a Steinway showroom? It has been my experience, that Steinway generally does not discount. The piano industry, especially those competing with the Asian market is selling less pianos in this economy than ever, especially to the typical home owner. Larger college and institutional music programs are still buying Steinways. It may be typical for a dealer to discount these days. Most other brands can be had for 30% (or in some cases more) less than MSRP.
