Any experienced Teachers can Lend me General Advice
on: February 16, 2013, 06:01:49 PM
I'm fairly new student (adult). Have worked through the 1 &2 Harmony (alfred theory) and the Doz. a Day(s), and currently have a Teacher (friend of a friend) very close to my home and she's helping me working with the John Thompson Books. (On beginning of Book 3).  I mentioned while this book seriers seems good learning and sight reading I would like to be taught more of my musical taste as well.  Mainly Jazz/Blues.  She said she will teach me anything I want , but left it at that.   So, I resently just purchased "The Jazz Theory Book" by Mark Levine and just reading the first chapter and the opening forward of book..., I'm like this sounds more like it.  I'm about to bring this book to my teacher and say this "Subject matter" is what I want to be taught,  and I'm looking for an answer from her of  - sure I know all this well and we'll use the book as a supplement.  I know nobody wants to lose a paying customer.  My question is how do I "Tell"
I have a qualified Jazz theory/player teacher? and not just someone assigning a block of book pages for me to practice and her to review me.  I really only was told she has younger students and is a vocalist as well. ?  Thanks,  any advice will be very welcome.
