repeat? coda? what?
on: February 17, 2013, 10:50:13 PM
so im writing a song, and I'm confused. I need a repeat, or a coda or something, but don't know what. so it goes from lets say part 1, then on to part 2, but then I want it to go back to part 1, but then skip over part 2 to keep going. what do I do?

There are a few possibilities depending on the nature of the "parts", but this might be a case for a coda.  You would write "DC al Coda" after the second part.  Then you put a coda symbol at the end of the first part, and another one at the start of the third part.  The player would play from the start of the piece until "DC al coda", go back to the start, play until the coda symbol and skip to the coda.

If part 1 is not actually the start of the piece, then it would be DS al coda, and you would need the appropriate symbol to show the start of part 1.
