im going to be auditioning for college next year and i was wondering if anyone had some good suggestions out of book 2. I would prefer one that isnt too common but all suggestions are welcome. thanks
I recommend the g# minor, because the prelude and fugue contrast each other, but both can be interpreted in different ways. I have heard the Fugue played as a mystical meditation but also as a somewhat
martellato dance. The Prelude I have heard as a celebration of the mechanical (Vladimir Feltsman) but also in a much more beautiful and
legato style. The Fugue is not difficult technically comparable to the others, but the Prelude's demanding fingering makes up where that leaves off; the Fugue rather, as a double Fugue, will provide a challenge making a convincing musical structure, especially since the parts that feel climactic are not accompanied by huge Rachmaninoff chords.
