Please recommend a guide to piano practice
on: February 18, 2013, 12:05:23 AM
I'd appreciate a recommendation or two or three! to a good guide on piano practice.  My teacher has been somewhat helpful, this forum very helpful, but I think it would be most helpful to read about this topic.

Thank you.

Hi Bernadette

There's actually an entire illustrated encyclopedia of practice ideas and strategies that's been written especially for students, and just might just help - you can see a tour of Practiceopedia at:

Just in case you're stuck for ideas :)

Is anyone a fan of the "Art of Practising" by Madeline Bruser. I was thinking of buying it.

I've read the available pages of it at Amazon. It appears interesting though a bit story book fashion, with peoples accounts or experiences. I noticed that it is not available for Kindle, often you can read some more actually pages and get a better feel in the Kindle App before purchase of a book. I don't really need another book in the house ! The App would be nice.

For $10 and change you don't have a lot to lose. If you get the book be sure to give us a review !
Depressing the pedal on an out of tune acoustic piano and playing does not result in tonal color control or add interest, it's called obnoxious.
