Hi, I recently played at a couple of home concerts at musical friends of mine, whihc gave me the confidence to finally plan something I had in mind for a long time; I was thinking about doing a full-lenght recital at my local pub later this year, and right now I am looking at what options I have.
My repertoire so far:
Mozart's C-minor sonata KV 457
Chopin's 1st Ballade
Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata and Pathetique (only the first 2 movements, but the 3rd will be well possible to study within a relatively short time as it is not nearly as hard as mvt. 1)
Chopin's Nocturnes op. 9
Chopin's Barcarole, Fantaisie-Impromptu and Grande Valse Brilliante op. 34-1
Schubert's complete op. 90 impromptus
Schumann's 'Kinderscenen', 'Waldscenen' and 'Blumenstück'
Tschaikovsky's 'Die Jahreszeiten' (The Seasons)
Bach's Italian Concerto
I also have been working on Chopin's Scherzo no. 2, which is nearing completion, sorted everything out except the coda, which I haven't started on yet but played through and I know it will be well within reach, as the hardest passagework of the piece occurs before it)
As encores I could play the Fantaisie-Impromptu (I really don't like the piece anymore, heard it too often, to put it in the programme), Bach's Prelude no. 3 from WTC book I, and Mendelssohn's Spinning Song, and perhaps any of the shorter works I mentioned above but I will not be playing in the main programme.
I know I don't have to make myself any illusions, as I am just an amateur pianist, but on the other hand the audience will not consist of very critical people, but simply acquaintances that would like to hear me play for the fun of it.
Any suggestions to help me create a programme? Even if it's more for my own peace of mind (being a highly self-critical person, and also because the whole thing will be filmed for Youtube-purposes) than for the sake of the recital itself. As I have plenty of time to practice (I work in a piano store and can easily squeeze in many short practice sittings every day as often there's no customers to tend to) and any recital would be in summer or autumn, suggestions for new works are welcome too, at least my current repertoire should give an indication what would be feasible (the Ballade being the most difficult piece I played since practicing again after many years of neglect.
Thanks in advance, for your ideas!
