Production Grand sampled piano
on: February 22, 2013, 10:44:17 PM
I just purchased the production grand from Production Voices after playing the software for a few days , tried to use the other libraries (Ivory, Galaxy and many more) what a let down by far this new library renders the other ones just about useless,

here is the link , let me know what you think from the audio samples
I would like the opinion from the ones who play real pianos, i understand that sampled pianos are just that sampled pianos

what would you say is missing if anything

As with all digital sound, I imagine it will sound as good as the system you run it through. I didn't detect anything wrong with the sample I listened to, it seems very convincing and clear on my computers speaker system.. I only listened to one or two piano sounds though. My computer speakers are decent but not as good as my studio monitors for hearing exact samples and clarity.

One thing about virtual piano software, there is always something better coming along ! If this one doesn't bog out your system then it seems to be a winner to me. How are the control features functioning for you ?
Depressing the pedal on an out of tune acoustic piano and playing does not result in tonal color control or add interest, it's called obnoxious.

The controls are the best so far very responsive love the 8 mic positions when i load up the other libraries they sound thick (you can say muddy) the only library that comes close to this is the grand 3 but very brittle in sound and doesn't have a full body sound ,most of the libraries work fine around the middle c the fail on the high end and low end, the only want in the production grand would be a custom velocity curve

Thanks for your reply

Excellent ! So this is one to keep in mind, I had not heard of it before your posting. Thanks for the info !

So far I'm using my Kawai MP6 without a virtual piano library but I am doing no recording from it as yet and I'm happy with the sound after on board trweeking.  Especially so through the headphones ( more so through the headphones than even the studio monitors).

I saw that at the site. I'm kind of stuck at the moment. The wife's computer crashed so she has my laptop and I'm on my 6 YO XP tower system till we iron things out ( completely different room from the pianos etc). Truth be known, she's loving the lap top, it's two years old itself but I thinks shes inherited it ! Basically the bottom line is I'm not ready to get hooked up, we need another computer I'm affraid.. That one is a great running i3, have to think about where I want to go next in terms of computer.

It's all very good mind you, just a rough start ! This MP6 is not the keyboard of yesterday, very pleased. On the other hand, this XP system might crash tomorrow for all I know !
