Three pieces of Arvo Pärt
on: February 23, 2013, 08:30:34 PM
I recently recorded three very calm pieces Arvo Pärt. I feel this repertoire would be very healthy for nearly everyone playing the piano frequently. The first is called "for Alina". It seem to be composed as if the gregorian just started their first shy experiments in becoming polyphonic.

The second one is called "variations for the recovery of arinoushka". You will find it constructed on an varied development which is in it self as calm as consequent. One single change from the minor to the major tonality and a slightly raise of the tempo is enough to represent the Idea its title reminds.

The third is "Silentium" for prepared piano and Strings. You can find again a broad development which is as calm as consequent, but regularly articulated or better organised by the just repeated Part of the prepared piano.
I do love this very contemplative music I hope you do so to.
(As most here know I had to remind, that I do usually produce my recordings with sampled instruments and digital audio workstations.)

Edit: here I added "Aeolina Harp" another Piece for prepared Piano by Henry Cowell I recorded some time ago
