RCM- ARCT program
on: February 27, 2013, 03:01:27 AM
Hello! I wanna hear everyone's opinion on a possible program for my ARCT exam. I'm doing my Gr. 10 in June and am anxious to start some new stuff. Here's my idea:
List A: Toccata in G minor, BWV 915 by Bach
List B: Sonata in E flat major, op. 81a "Les Adieux" by Beethoven
List C: Scherzo in C sharp minor, op. 39 by Chopin
List D: Jeux d'eau by Ravel
List E: Image astrale (1981) by Coulthard
Concert Etudes: Études d'exécution transcendante d'aprés Paganini No. 3 "La Campanella" by Liszt
I realize how ridiculously overpowered this program is, and I'm not really superior in any aspect of my playing, just well rounded in pretty much everything. I'm, of course, really good with sight reading, but nobody cares about that. Anyway, another problem is that this program runs 54 minutes in the youtube videos I found which is dangerously close to 60 minutes. I'd really like to keep the Beethoven and the Liszt, but I'm willing to pick P's and F's, Chopin nocturnes and Debussy preludes if need be. The Coulthard is just to have a Canadian composer, but it runs 10 minutes and I'd greatly appreciate if someone could point out another Canadian AR piece that's shorter (and good). If not Canadian, I already have Khatchaturian's Toccata in e flat minor under my belt and it'll work just fine (it's not in the syllabus, but it's in CC's Associate syllabus, so I'm sure it will work as an option). So, I'm really asking if you guys think this is a program of typical difficulty chosen, or if I should tone it down a bit. Also, others might as well post their programs here for feedback if they want.

Good luck in June - I'm also doing mine in June and you are waaaay ahead of me in picking new repertoire. I am still trying to memorize my pieces, which may be a slight problem as I signed up for Peel Music Festival to try to get over playing in public. Probably not a good choice HAHA
I don't have a syllabus but is there any Oscar Peterson for ARCT? I am doing Land of the Misty Giants for my List E. It's a really nice and mellow (plus shorter than my others).
