What's the freaking easiest Bach p&f?
on: March 01, 2013, 12:35:21 AM
It has to be in a major key and from WTC.  Also it can't be in C major.  Because both of them suck.

A short one. Mine was fairly easy, cept for the prelude, that was hard to get up to tempo.

Try No 15 from book 2 (G major), though if you think the two C major ones suck you are probably beyond all redemption.

I don't want to be redeemed!

I was already past the event horizon a loooong time ago! >:(

And apparently I don't have book 2, so it has to be from book1.

Given all your moaning about your last P&F, dare one ask what has possessed you to embark on a new one?  I'm imagining the threats that must have been involved.

Maybe he's in need of that 5c you offered per P & F.

From Book 1, I think the easiest (in a major key) is D major.

It's got a 4 voice fugue. But my picks (the E or the Ab) do too, I think.

Mhh you're partly rights, not all of Bach p&f are interesting, I got well  from book I with the first two and 14 in F#m, I don't mind 23 in B major. From book II I studied n.12 and 18.
Well about the easiest I would say the first from book I also the fugue it's pretty fluent when you study. But most of about WTC depends on the reason why you have to play it...
I mean why do you have to play WTC? does your teacher asked you to do or you feel that it must be a step you have to take as pianist? for me worked the second one, after I've studied a couple of them my skills got better and a lot. Bach for pianists it's like a kinda gym, then Beethoven would be much more easier to approach more than you could think ;)
Beethoven piano Sonata 26 op.81 "Les Adieux"
Bach WTC I n.14; II n.12, n.18
Chopin op.10 n.12
Rachmaninov prelude 12 in G#min op.32
Moscheles op.70 n. 15

I used to hate bach too, out of complete inadequacy to play the P&F's.

I started with no 1, but looking back, should have started with no 2. The fugue is very enjoyable and the prelude is so dramatic. Give number 2 a go.

It's not that I can't play him, it's just that I don't like his music.

Except for a few of his stuff.

C minor bvw 847. The prelude is on my utube too. That one is harder to me! Grr
But yeah theyre fun. I like the preludes that are 2 pages and the fugues that are under 3. Thats do-able. Havent tried 4 voices though.

Bk 1 no 21 in B flat major is good, particularly the prelude. not necessarily the easiest but fun.  :)

Bk 1 no 9 in E major is BORING :(.  i did it for my ABRSM grade 8 in 1977 and it put me off fugues for 35 years.

I put my vote for D major. The 4-voice fugue isn't as intricate and tangled up like some of the other 4-voice fugues.

Brahms 118/2

I don't think it's called a "consensus" when it's only with yourself.  Who else suggested the B major one?
