Yet another Chopin Ballade in G minor! "Coda only"
on: March 03, 2013, 06:57:40 AM
Greetings everyone,

It has been a very long while since my last topic on this beautiful website. In here, I present to you the famous "almost infamous" Coda of Chopin's 1st ballade in G minor Op.23. I hope you share with me you opinion. I must confess I got carried away with the tempo and I believe this is faster than my humanistic capabilities. Waiting for your response ;) !

P.S= This was recorded on a Samsung Galaxy Note and then converted to MP3 using a computer software.

That's not bad at all!  If you  could just control the tempo and not let it get away from you, it would be exemplary.  for example, at the end of the 4th and 8th measure you rush instead of a slight - very slight - stentato on the last two beats.  It sounds like a race to the end - which, by the way, should be played in tempo.  NO holds on the last two chords.  It doesn't make sense.
Why only the coda, for heaven's sake?!  i remember some of your playing in the past - and I also liked the nocturne in the same soundcloud site.  But just the coda of the ballade doesn't really reveal much about your musicality.  Let's hear it all!

Loved the speed and the fact that the bass notes are there and correct. Often, the more people play it fast, the less the bass line is precise and it's botched. Would also like the hear the whole thing cmon! :D

Thanks birba for your first comment! I will take your words into great consideration. However, it is very likely for almost anyone performing this piece (especially if it was the last in the program of a solo recital) to feel very nervous and anxious reaching the coda with all the things that take place before it. Everything builds up to the coda and I almost everytime lose control as if possessed by a demon telling me (MY TURN!!!!!!) and it is what it is. constant practicing will hopefully prevent such hastiness from taking place again. Plus, it was my first public performance of this piece. So, I hope it will get much better in the upcoming recitals.

koopakool, I'm very glad you enjoyed it. It is true that many performance tend to neglect the bass in the coda especially in the ascending octaves (which even in some recordings Horowitz plays them as single notes and not as octaves because of the CRAZY jumps!!!)

As to the complete recording I hope to receive the DVD of this solo recital soon and I will SURELY upload some of its content on youtube and link them to here. I had some crazy moments with strange voices that hopefully will (positively) shock the listeners. Just bare with me several more days for more recordings ;) !
