Graham Fitch Blog

What do people think of Graham Fitch's Piano Practicing blog?
https://practisingthepiano.com/

I quite like his analogies.

The 'Feedback Loop' seems to be quite a big thing for him.
Currently working on:
Beethoven Emperor
Bach Goldbergs

I find his site very useful and I like his approach to teaching.

For anyone interested, there is a good interview with him today on the Crosseyed Pianist Blog:

It's well worth a visit.

If you live in the Uk, I would recommend taking some lessons with him.  In addition to being a great teacher, he teaches on a nice grand piano.
Beethoven - Sonata in C sharp minor, Op 27 No 12
Chopin - Fantasie Impromptu, Nocturn in C sharp minor, Op post
Brahms - Op 118, Nos 2 & 3

I attended a weekend workshop of Graham's recently on piano practice and it certainly does what it says on the tin!  I came away with masses of notes and my approach to practice and the tools I use has significantly changed particularly in terms of getting a far better result from the time I put in - a key message of Graham's.  At first his approach can sound pedantic and very pernickety to someone like me who randomly and I have to say fairly mindlessly practiced by playing pieces over and over.  But gradually I have adopted some of his recommendations.  One which has made a huge difference to me is getting the fingering absolutely right on a new piece before the bad habits are established as they are almost impossible to undo. I find that most of my stumbles are due to poor fingering - I used to be a rock musician so I inevitably use my strongest fingers but not necessarily the right ones.

Very good and very useful, and I highly recommend a purchase of his piano practicing e-books. They are so packed with good advice that it takes a veeeery long time to digest and try them out, but the one after the other has proven to be extremely good. They are not expensive either, it is an investment worth every penny.
