What do you say about ... cloning?
on: March 16, 2013, 04:22:34 PM
As in, what do you think about it?

If it wasn't so complicated (the clones are easily defected and do not often live very long) there's nothing wrong with it...But we must remember that the individuals will not be exact copies of the original because of environmental differences.

Apparently there is a species of frogs that went extent 30 years ago, which scientists are going to now resurrect back into the ecosystem.

Yet, in your example, there are different motives, different intentions, different souls between the clone and the original.

They would be like twins. Different "person" on the inside, yes.

I'm all for knowing more.

I'd like some individually cloned body parts, not a whole 'nother "Bob" because it wouldn't be me. I could go for a replacement heart and things in the future.

If the clone would pass as me to an outsider and agreed to go to work for me so I could stay home and practice, then I'll take one :)

But since the clone would probably be as stubborn and selfish as the orginal, I think it wouldn't work  :(

Not that any other way is still not ew.

Shame on whoever let this wonderfully freakish animal get extinct in the first place!

If humans did the same what would they eat with while pregnant... or never mind... :P

I wonder if my clone would be a bit of a jerk.  I don't think I'd share my stuff. He'd have to get his own stuff.

I think it would probably not be much of a problem if we're talking purely about genetic clones, but if it were possible to clone a person as they are right now, including the current state of their mind and memories and so forth, it seems like this could be very difficult to reconcile. I think if I knew I was the original and my clone knew he was the clone, it might be, if I was thinking from the clone's perspective, as though I could "start from zero," with no belongings, no wife, no nothing. I think that if I were said clone I'd actually find that pretty exciting, it'd be like the same person could live a whole other life. After a few months went by, depending on the relative fortunes of the original and the clone, I guess either a friendship would ensue but hopefully not jealousy. It would definitely be weird.

One of the interesting ideas I find about scientists bringing a species back from extinction, is in connection to a portion of Mormon philosophy.  According to their philosophy, we will learn how to build entire worlds/planets, as we learn and progress throughout eternity.

While that's great for Mormons, I'm not really sure it has anything to do with them. Especially considering almost every science fiction book that has ever existed agrees with them. I doubt every one of them was written by a Mormon. That being said, it's pretty fantastic that not every religion considers progress in science to be a sin.

I'm also pretty sure they are bringing some plants back from extinction ages ago through seeds they found in mummy jars, and that they brought a 32,000 year old plant back to life.

I just read they might be able to bring Neanderthals back too.

In my case it works out because I like both of him and they like both of me.

At least in your case, apparently they've been successful.

We all thought you were extinct after attempting to lie and cheat your way to victory during AJ's friendly Pianostreet piano competition.

You still owe Pianostreet and keypeg in particular a great big apology.

But apparently you won't honor this not since here you are cloned and babbling with your sociopathy gene fully in tact and functional!

Perhaps if you'd waited another 3 months before showing up we'd have all forgotten about what you did.  :D
