I'm not using hexadecimal, or ASCII.

I briefly read a study a couple of weeks ago where they implanted devices into the brains of two rats. They then successfully (70% success rate for the given simple task, which was pull lever to get a drink or something) trained one rat by training the other and wirelessly transmitting the brainwaves used during the task..

So technically I guess the answer is "already happened".

They also said that with "questionable consistency" when placing the rats together (the first test was conducted at a significant distance) the first rat appeared to be able to deliberately tell the other one what to think so to speak..  based on them rewarding the first rat when the second rat performed the task correctly.

I'm heavily intrigued as to the implications this will have on the field of piano teaching in the future :P  - and will be extremely depressed if we are able to successfully replicate it in humans and eliminate the necessity to practice complex tasks..   though I can see how that would be useful in some situations.

That said, while that would significantly devalue performance proficiency it may lead it a huge revival of composition since each individuals composed or improvised art would remain their own, only the technical mastery would be a given.

How before thoughts can be digitized?  They already have.  We all just did here.  Digital ideas.

The fish thing make me wonder... They've recorded something there.  What if they do that in more detail?  Is that good enough?  Do they need to be able to play it back on that same brain for it be recorded?  Or translate that same 'thought' to another brain?  A thought?  Or a memory?  Or... what?  A feeling?  Sensation?

I had an experience once on psilocybin in which I was pure consciousness(probably a consequence of everything else shutting down). I think that's what all life is, although humans have more to use, this is probably what fires off brain activity in the first place. Probably if brains were part biology(coz that's what consciousness has influence on)part computer...the next step in nanotechnology then there will be a direct link between pure consciousness and the effect this interaction this would normally have on the brain and thus on experience and thoughts.
I doubt science will ever bring us thoughtdigitization if it doesn't recognize consciousness as something distinct and seperate from material

Another one I read recently was about flexible microchips that can be placed on person similarly to a temporary tattoo. They have a variety of sensors that allow mapping of the brains electrical signals. The devices have already successfully been used to remotely control an aircraft by thought.

The team also talked about placing the devices on a human throat - Thanks to the phenomenon of sub-vocalisation (your vocal chords move even when you just think a word) they believe that they can use the vibrations found in the throat to determine what someone is thinking - so long as its in words - and that that can then be digitally interpreted and transmitted to another persons receiving chip, allowing for a kind of digital telepathy.

Hopefully soon, because it's a pregnant dog to have to learn different tools to put what's in your brain into the physical world. Although sometimes those limitations increase the creative process. I've composed too many brilliant pieces in my head that are impossible to fully capture to the point that I'm pissed that this isn't already a reality.
