Looking for cheap keyboards?
on: March 20, 2013, 10:57:37 AM
Well, not much to say here... I plan on learning the Piano sometime soon, however, I don't own a piano/keyboard. Are there any cheap keyboards that would be good for a person starting out? I'd rather not spend a lot of money only to find out that I don't actually like playing the piano...
Thanks in advanced!

edit: I've been looking at some threads, would the Yamaha NP-30 be a good starting point?

It could be argued that any piano is better than non ! However, the piano you have listed isn't the greatest starting point. The three digital pianos I suggest to people who want a taste of piano lessons but are unsure if they will continue or not are in order of personal preference :

Yamaha P105 ( my current top suggestion for a low priced digital piano)

Korg Sp170 ( my previous top pick for a low priced digital piano)

Casio PX130 ( something a lot of people go for)

There are a whole host of pianos better than these that come progressively more and more recommended as the price increases because of features that are better and better. There are some below these that come less recommended because of having less features that are quite important to have.

That said, a place like Musicians Friend stocks some used digital pianos ( Guitar Center is another). They also run coupon savings, either of which can get you closer to your ball park price range. You give no location in your profile so I have no idea if these outlets are even feasible for you to look into.
Depressing the pedal on an out of tune acoustic piano and playing does not result in tonal color control or add interest, it's called obnoxious.

Ahh, I knew I was missing information. I live in San Antonio, Texas. My parents will be paying for the keyboard, since I'm underaged, so I'm not exactly sure what their budget is or when they are even willing to pay for it. Thanks for the suggestions.
