Is this the beginning ..??
on: March 22, 2013, 05:01:46 AM
Hello Everyone..!!

I've been playing keyboards for years until a few days back when I finally got myself a Clavinova. I've now actually realized my fingers lack the strength this beast requires..!!

Playing on semi weighted keyboards, these hammer keys are new to me ; they're heavy to a point that I wonder if they're heavier than a grand piano for that matter..:D So should I start again with the basic exercises or will my fingers get used to the weight in time ..??

Cheers ..:)

You will adjust. The difference in key weight probably is not as much as you think it is but it feels that way right now. After some time playing on this one try a cheap keyboard sometime and you will wonder how you played it. Your fingers will run away on you.

The difference between my grand and my Kawai MP6 keyboard is after the escapement the grand continues to fall away under my fingers as it did before the escapement and the digital is slightly heavier after the escapement lets off. Also key travel, the grand has very slightly longer travel. The digital is infinately adjustable for touch incidentally, being so in terms of dynamics and velocity. You don't get to do that on the grand wthout a huge tech bill or lot's of study on how to voice and regulate a piano. Read your manual !
Depressing the pedal on an out of tune acoustic piano and playing does not result in tonal color control or add interest, it's called obnoxious.

Just curious, which model did you buy ? The Clavinovas are a staple in the industry, you did fine in your pick I'm quite sure.

Hi,

I picked up the CLP-440 (Rosewood), the ivory keys and double polyphony is definitely worth stretching from a CLP-430...

And yeah, these keys are heavy ..!! It'll take a while for me to get used to the weight ..;)

I assume you have adjusted the touch button settings ? I know that won't specifically adjust the weight of the keys but it can change the touch response in terms of velocity and volume.
