Fields of gold by Sting and Apologize by Timbaland
on: March 29, 2013, 06:55:54 PM
Hello ;)
I would like to get your 2 cents about 2 of my recordings since i'm a new pianist, been playing on and off for a while, and only recently been into it more and more.

the first video is my interpretation for Fields of gold by sting:

The second one is just a cover for Apologize by Timbaland:

Feedback will be much appreciated.
Itay.

You are playing really nice, well done!
It's very difficult to comment on modern music having played classic mostly myself (years ago though!), but I'd want to feel more by adding more contrast and drama, if you know what I mean. May be it's not helpful to you, (and you already are playing really well anyway!0 but I am just not feeling the sadness in the way you play Apologize, especially,.. I would have expected to feel what a person would feel, what that song is about, the regret of someone who is passed the no return point.. You know what I am saying? Sorry if it's a rubbish suggestion, it's just my opinion :) Great job!

I love Fields of Gold!  I listened to that one and agree with "contrast and drama" comment.  But more specifically, dynamic contrast.  There wasn't much dynamic contrast throughout your playing and thinking about where it would be fitting to be softer could give it more life and musicality.  Also, often I hear your LH is overpowering a bit ... the intro itself could be a little more calm in my opinion.  Overall I love the tune though!
