This is how Valetina Lisista flourished into the mainstream.

Yeah, I think some people manage to find their ways through multiple means, some would work for others and others, not so much. Lindsey Stirling is a good example of a musician that succeeded due to Youtube (I know she isn't a pianist, but that's aside the point.) when other ways have failed for her.
Personally, I think it is a mix of both Youtube and IRL factors that contribute to whether an artist gets recognized.

Yet another pointless question from Beethovenopus2no3mov2! Can you actually play any Beethoven sonatas, or indeed can you actually play anything, apart from playing around with other people's time, and patience, by posting extremely silly and naive questions? I have finally seen the light and seen through you, and I understand what your up to; and its starting to get extremely tedious.
You seem to be very good at asking very open ended questions but not contributing very much, if anything at all, to the wider discussion yourself! You never even seem to respond to anyone else's posts which have arisen from your tantalizing questions!!!
Are you going to come out of the wordwork and respond to my posts, or are you just going to continue to post some more damn stupid questions elsewhere?
