I wanna do a piano concerto
on: April 11, 2013, 01:22:57 AM
Change in plans...

I wanna start a concerto, which one should I start off with?  I know I'm like screwing out with the Rach 3 and all, but I wanna learn one legit.  I was thinking of Mozart 20 or maybe the Liszt 1 or 2 but I don't know.

The Tchaikovsky 1 is good but...  I don't know.

Or one of the Beethoven ones!!!

Or Chopin 1!!!!!

Bu maybe the Tchaikovsky and the Beethoven is too much for a first concerto.

Most of you kinda know me so...  ANYTHING BUT BACH!!!

Hmm, I don't think you read the whole thing.

You know, I was like, 'hey I kinda like this!'. So then I looked at the title, and it was something by Bach.  Then I was like, 'nah this sucks'.

Irrational prejudice in a nutshell.  Your loss mate.

It's one of the earliest concertos, very high quality and a good introduction to the form.

Do something less played, do Hummel! You do have the hands for that (which I never received so you can forget about that hour or half).

You might even get a chance to study with Ian Honson in your future school...

Hey man, the weber concert piece is freaking awesome. I don't have time to do it right now, but you should check it out. It is shorter than a concerto, but it has some really unique musical qualities.

This one is a siiiick performance of it!!

Irrational maybe, but...

prejudice=An adverse judgment or opinion formed beforehand or without knowledge or examination of the facts

I'd say R4 has the facts: It's Bach and he doesn't like Bach  ::)

Well it was a joke.

To be honest I just didn't like it in the first place.

And then I was like, 'oh it's Bach!'. The final nail in the coffin!

You'd have made a great Soviet historian.

Of the ones you've listed, the Beethoven 1 or any of the Mozart are probably as good a place to start as any.

Alright!  Mozart 20 will be the beginning of my world domination!!!

Before I end the world of course.

Well dominating the world would be easier after I've ended it.  A lot of less people to worry about going against me.

And a lot harder to fill an orchestra to accompany you.

If you want to try something a little more romantic, slightly off the beaten track, the Dvorak is not bad:

They are the same thing actually here, because an opinion is also a fact: It is a fact that R4's opinion on Bach is not favorable.

Predjudice is not a workable concept when applied to matters like this, because to prove it exists you have to eradicate it and it's impossible to prove uneradicatable (I know this is not a word but I am too lazy to look for something better).

Ah, such profound wisdom from our philosophers. J. Heifetz is reported to have said to an audience of soldiers during a WWII concert: "I will now play Bach for you. It is good for you. Like spinach."

But back to the thread:

j_menz, thank you. That Dvorak was some fun to listen to, especially with the score. How did you put that together (score + music)?

Might have to learn that one myself. More than a little romantic, though, I would say. And more than a little bit of work to learn.

I didn't. It already existed on YT.

ineradicable

You can thank me by resuming your invention.  ;)

Thank you :)
My language is easier, when I know the rules I can just make up words as I go by adding to them...

The invention...one day maybe...but it was seriously affecting my practicing habits... I started avoiding going to the piano...Also I could play it the way I wanted with my teacher's piano, but struggled with my own (my keys are kind of sluggish and heavy and very slippery) so the tension was coming back that I worked hard to get rid of.

But I have started on Rameu to help my addiction with Scarlatti :)
