Can not download sheet music here

I'm a gold member and have downloaded a lot of music here at PS. Suddenly I get an explorer window that comes up as a PDF is trying to load and a message saying This Tab Has Been Recovered and thats the end of the download, the page goes white. This is since over the weekend.

Any suggestions ?

Odd... of course I'm a silver, not gold (I'm cheap!) but I just tried one of the freebies and it worked OK.  Firefox and then the .pdf opened OK.

What I am NOT is a computer geek, or anything even close to it!

I downloaded Firefox, came here to Pianostreet picked a composer and brought the pdf right in , no problem. Signed out went back to explorer and the same thing as before, This Tab Has Been Recovered, then the message could not go back to pianostreet with a red x up in the corner. Something in explorer must be contaminated.

Might also have something to do with Acrobat. 

When you tried Firefox, did you use the integrated reader or an Acrobat plugin?

I have downloaded nothing into Firefox, just what ever came along with it is what I used. I tried videos and of course it wants to install a flash plugin. My system has Adobe Flash 11.xxxx now and Reader XI.xx.

I may have sucked in an adware malware of some kind because this morning Norton is popping up left and right saying it's removed a known adware popup program. It keeps reinstalling itself or trying to reinstall itself and Norton is catching it. This is the latest and greatest development ! I looked up the specs under more info, this thing is old ,dating back to between 2005 and 2009 origin and update dates.

Yes outin, I have cleaned browser history if that's what you mean, along with a bunch of old unused programs ?

Loyd, I've been running along happy and dumb with explorer for years, I did have a crash a few years ago ( fatal error blue screen crash on the computer but that was USB derived) which led to a reinstall of about everything, most of which was backed up on my external drive. At that point I also added a second internal hard drive. This system is pretty old now, it may be starting to have trouble keeping up with todays world of computing. However, my wife stole my laptop with windows 7 on it ( she is borrowing it, so far for a year), this is an older yet, XP system.

Edit:

Every time I make a move here at pianostreet my Norton flag comes up saying Opt_content (1) is being removed and is not safe or something to that effect. Every move, every message I view on, each response I make. I'm on Explorer today or at the moment anyway. I'll come back on Firefox and report back in. On each move though, my task bar says it's downloading something or other  partner and then the Norton window pops in and has blocked that.

Ok I'm back now on Firefox. No issues, running smoothly, no meassages.

I've been using the free version for years.  It's caught numerous malware and hacked websites red handed. 


I would also recommend discontinuing use of IE.  Switch to Firefox or Chrome. 

There is also a plug-in called Adblock Plus.  You can get it for both Firefox and Chrome.  Besides removing nearly all online ads, it also has filters that block malware.

I've been running on Firefox flawlessly today. Norton 360 is due to expire in about 20 days, I'll consider what you guys are telling me !

As of the moment many security experts are criticizing Java 7 for its flaws.  The security concerns are mostly for web use, so if you disable Java in the browser you are generally ok.  If you are sure you absolutely don't need to run Java apps at the moment, the safest course is to completely remove it from your system.

If you want to run Java the current version is 7u21.  If you have an older version of Java 7 upgrade immediately.  

If you prefer Java 6, the current version is 6u45.


Note, Java is completely different from Javascript.  You don't need to disable Javascript.

Java 7 is what the computer just brought in  not so long ago. I'm a simple browser basically, online video is about as heavy as it gets. I come here, now and then a photo forum, some blogs etc. Most sites warn that they require Java if that is needed, I've run into that now and then. I don't recall any problems on Java 6.

Not all the computers on my network are new. I spend time on the older, slower machines, cleaning them up so they can still perform reasonably.

Java and Norton are good products made by dedicated people. For some time (at the birth of the internet) our office was very close to them. We ate at the same restaurants and drank at the same bars. Keep your subscriptions up and get the latest versions.
