Suggestions of 'Etude'
on: April 23, 2013, 06:02:26 PM
Hello,

I'm finishing the polishing of Chopin prelude 28 # 15 and the Haydn sonata 37 - D major.
I started studying Bach Inventions two voices - Bb major.

Would you like to start a Etude, but I need some suggestions of something  at this level.

Could somebody help me?

thank you

Maybe some Czerny etudes. Those are not too hard and will be good for development of technique. Don't go for the big etudes by Chopin, Liszt, or others like those as you will be overwhelmed.
Debussy Pour le Piano
Chopin Etude 10/5, 10/9
Beethoven Sonata 2/2, 10/3
Bach P&F no. 7 WTC 1
Ligeti Musica Ricercata 10

heller op. 45-47

the latter bunch of burgmuller Op25, though these may be a bit easy.

not strictly etudes, but schumanns album for the young would probably be good for you also. it gets more interesting the further you get in..

also, maybe a little bit after the ones mentioned above me and before jumping to the Chopin etudes, you should learn some of Moskowski's op.72 etudes :), perhaps you can play one of them already, but definitely go with Czerny (opuses 299, 740, etc) and the other ones first.

Ok, thanks for the answers until now.

So I can understand that, generally, the Czerny are for beginners and intermediate (although there are also hard too), and Brahms, Chopin, etc. are advanced plus? rsrsrs

I understand that, but had hope of being cheated because I think the Czerny`s etudes very boring and not very melodic!

I do recommend the Heller Op 45 in the Teichmüller edition (see https://imslp.org/wiki/25_Etudes_Melodiques,_Op.45_%28Heller,_Stephen%29).There is no reason an aspiring pianist should play worthless drivel like Hanon etc when quality studies of this nature are available. A pianist who has mastered the above work has secured a firm foundation to embark upon the whole Romantic repertoire.

Although I agree with the "not very melodic" part, "boring" part is very subjective, I had lots of fun learning and practicing them, besides, if you want to some day play some of Chopin´s, Liszt, Rach, etc etudes, you have to start from the bottom, you know, the walk before running thing  :P

@g_s_223,  do you really believe that if you learn those etudes that you have a good foundation? Because I just started taking piano lessons 2 months ago and already have moonlight sonata(first movement) Clair de Lune and Rach's prelude in Csharp. I am wanting to expand my repertoire a lot more, but I needed something to build technique. Do you think these etudes can help me?

That's amazing! unless I have not understood well (sorry, but my English is with the help of google translator rsrsr), you began to study piano 2 months ago and plays Rach, Beethoven, etc? another one or two weeks, maybe you're playing some List musics!

I feel like an *** and incompetent, not that I would not be kkkk, but I just can`t go out from the beginning... I think there is a natural selection of ability. This makes me very sad because with my almost 50 years old, thought that the effort was the determining factor of success, but Listmusicfan and others tell me that success comes already stamped birthplace.

Thanks for the compliments marao! I dont really know how to explain it, I just love piano so much and its not a burden to practice like some of the other instruments I play. And I am actually also working on liebestraum no 3 right now so I can get some liszt in my repertoire :) :)
