Picking a piano concerto (update)
on: April 24, 2013, 04:30:18 AM
Hello,
My earlier post talked about picking a piano concerto. I have since have an update. I have a remodified list.
I am interested in learning a piano concerto for a competition. The question is, which one? I have thought of a set list:
Saint-Saëns PC 5 2nd or 3rd mvt
Saint-Saëns African Fantasy
Liszt Totentanz
Mozart PC 20 1st mvt
Mozart PC 24 3rd mvt
Mendelssohn PC 1 3rd mvt
Beethoven PC 3 1st mvt
Rubinstein PC 4 1st or 3rd mvt

I really want to learn the Saint-Saëns 5, but I want to learn the 2nd mvt a little more than the 3rd. Is this a good selection?
Ps keep in mind the orchestra is not professnal but highly skilled.
Thanks!

Other than taking out the two Liszt concerti and slagging off the orchestra, how is this a different question? Why does it need a new topic? Just post in the original!

If I had to pick concertos from your list they would be: Mozart No.24, 3rd movement; Beethoven No.3, last movement.  I don't know Saint Saens 5th Concerto, but I would love to play Saint Saens No.2 Middle movement (Scherzo.)  Good luck.

I would go with the Saint-Saens 5th concerto, it's an awesome piece.
